Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
I finally came across a coffin chassis RC10 graphite at a price I could stand to pay. It's already got a set of MIP 1/4" CVD and MIP bellcrank steering, but could use some minor clean up and a few additions.
. . . . .
To start with it needed a motor guard. I have a few that were purchased from the RPM stash earlier this year. I also have a couple of purple 4-40 screws for the chassis.
. .
The motor, electronics, and battery cup needed to be removed to start chassis clean up. The servo tape was holding really well and the steering servo, receiver, and TSC power switch were all also Shoe Goo'd in place. It took some restraint not to go caveman on them for the removals.

Re: Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
As rare as this particular chassis is, kinda surprised this hadn't gotten more attention. Chassis looks really nice, I was lucky enough to score one 6-7 years ago with some (sadly) servo mount holes drilled. What's the plan/ build for this late 6036 Team Car?

So what it seems you’re saying is that no late graphite chassis should have steering servo mounting holes then, correct ?
The antenna mount hole as well ?

Who do you race for ?
Me……. I race for me.
That’s impossible, I was told you need a sponsor to race.

The shock towers are painted blue. I'm going to try and restore them to natural G10.Charlie don't surf wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 1:45 pm What's the plan/ build for this late 6036 Team Car?
To me, the main shortcoming of this chassis is the lack of a servo mount position. I'm going to work on that. This build has to wait it's turn though despite the temptation to bump it to the front of the list. I just thought I should start the build thread before I started doing too much with it.

Re: Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
I'd have to dig my car out to tell. I'm pretty sure mine had ones just kinda drilled in haphazardly...but then again we haven't seen many of these so I was pretty happy to find one in general!MarkyDents wrote: ↑Sat Sep 21, 2024 3:29 pm So what it seems you’re saying is that no late graphite chassis should have steering servo mounting holes then, correct ?

Re: Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
Some days I regret selling my new build 6036 w/ coffin chassis. I literally stole it off eBay several years ago and fixed a few of the minor flaws. A buddy gave me an offer I could not refuse. I told myself it's a kit I needed to keep, then Covid hit and I had to stock up on toilet paper.

Re: Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
I compared the other graphite chassis to my new coffin and my butchered coffin (also doesn't have the servo mount holes). One change made to the coffin chassis was the battery cup was moved 1/8" forward on the coffin chassis.

Re: Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
Some of the basics showing up. Wheels, tires, shock towers.
. .
Actually, I think I prefer these rear wheels. The TQ-22 tires were previously glued to 1 piece wheels but came off with relatively little dried glue left on the tires. I might have to put some 3 piece front wheels on too.

Re: Frankentruck's RC10 Graphite Coffin Buggy Clean-up
I decided the steering servo should be top plate mounted, similar to a Kyosho Ultima and Optima. In the process of working on the top plate design, a 2nd reasonably priced coffin buggy came up. It has had servo mount holes drilled in its chassis, but it will get the steering servo relocated to a top plate too.
