Jill of the Jungle and Oregon Trail. Always played these on my friend's family computer. This had to be late '80s, when video games were good.

We used to always have twist ties in the house. They were in "that" drawer in the kitchen that had everything. All trash bags came with more ties than bags, so there was always leftovers, so there was always a supply of them in the drawer.

Today, we really only get the cheap ties on loafs of bread (when they don't have those stupid plastic closures), and our trash bags are all drawstring. I can still get the heavy duty ones tying up wires on lots of modern products, but those are usually a little overkill for the day-to-day need of twist ties. I have discovered that my supply of twist ties isn't enough for my demand, so today, for the first time in my life, I ordered light duty twist ties. :D Never would have had to do that back in the day.

That photo reminds me of the Little Rascals/Our Gang episode where the gang made a crazy contraption out of junk to race against the rich kid and his fancy pants firetruck.

I was watching one of my youtube channels, https://www.youtube.com/@80sLife, and he was attending a fair that had an interesting exhibit, for typewriters.

Then it hit me, when I was in 9th grade, I took a typewriting course in high school, and TBH, I was one of the few males in that class. In '88-'89, you simply didn't need to know how to type in real life, and typing was only a skill that females would need as they entered the working world. That is weird to think about today; you really didn't need to know how to type to get by. I only did okay in that class, and never got to 100% free of looking at the keyboard, and that is true to this day. :D

Later in life, I remember when my dad's small business got a "word processor," and we were all in awe of it. Word processors were devices between typewriters and computers, and they didn't really last long as computers took their place pretty quick.

In 10th grade, I had a "computer lab" as one of my classes. We didn't learn anything in that class, and just played with MS PAINT and TETRIS.

I also took a photography class in 10th grade. We had a dark room and everything. In 11th and 12th grade, I took a vo-tech class on airplane mechanics (and I went off to A&P school after HS), but I know that was a rare thing, and not typical even then.

When I graduated HS in '92, there was one computer in our school connected to "the internet." It was some rough looking thing that we could only talk to students at other schools on, and nobody did that.

Contra, if you shot enough guys you got an extra life... used to park Bill just short of the first screen roll, tape the B-Button down and sit there with cookies and milk watching an unending stream of bad guys walk into the gunfire... 99 lives (and like ten minutes later ) you were basically invincible.

Also used to make super long completely flat tracks on Excitebike and tape the A button down just because I liked the noise the motorcycle made.

...tape is a major source of entertainment even to this day.

A conversation I had just ten minutes ago, "You can do your thing, I won't need help cutting all the wood" ... "Yeah, but you'll need someone to hold the shop vac to suck up the dust" ... "You just bought a whole new roll of shiny aluminum tape, I'll figure something out" ... "Not with my aluminum tape you won't"

I took typing in HS as well, sucked at it big time! It wasn't until the mid-90's when computer bulletin boards started cropping up, they evolved into forums around 98-9, and that is when I taught myself to type. It's not hard, it just takes practice. Now, I type quite a bit every day being on forums and with all the office work I have to do for my business.

up down up up left down right A B B A left right start... no.

up down up down left left right A B A left right select start... no?

up down up down down right... aw, screw this... I'm going to ride my bike.
