Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
I guess some of you have seen other pictures on here of my Big Boys Toys Sprintcar. So here's a progress update.
It's coming along nicely now and I'm only waiting on a set of tires for it to complete the build minus the actual painting of the body. Anyway it's a mixture of new and old parts, the chassis and roll cage etc are original BBT. The running gear is from a 1985 RC10 that was in poor condition but it had a belt drive transmission. I've put alloy arms front and rear on it and nice alloys rims all around as well. I dyed the horrible murky white parts black. I also purchased some modern shiny shocks to give it more bling. The nose is off it in the picture because I'm making a alloy shock tower for the front, the white stock one just didn't look right.
Finally this morning the body and wing arrived via UPS. The body is from McAllister and arrived with a free slightly blemished body thrown in by the great guys at McAllister. The wings from R D Enterprises are a work of art with alloy centres which are going to look great with all the other shiny bits.

Re: Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
They have real good looking chrome paint now.
would be cool to have an all-metal llok, maybe with some small sponsor decals and pin-stripes...

I've looked for chrome paint here..the only stuff I can find is not for plastic. Does anybody have a brand name I could check out?

Re: Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
Alclad II has chrome formulas for lexan as well as for hard surfaces. Intended to be backed (or underlain) by a high gloss black enamel. That gives it the mirror finish necessary for the chrome shine. http://www.alclad2.com/alclad-home.html Sprint cars well done like yours end up looking SOO real it's sick. Keep going!

Re: Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
WOW, that is looking great! I really need to get one to add to the collection.
The only thing I think I would do diffently is make some side plates out of thin aluminum for the wings. They did such a great job on the center section I wonder why they went with lexan for the sides. Save weight maybe?
I can't wait 'till its done! Great Work!!!
Edit,
Looking back at the pictures it looks like the wings did come with aluminum side plates? Or is that a protective film over the lexan?

Re: Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
The chrome areas of the Bud body in this link were painted using the Alclad II paint for Lexan. It's a bit hard to tell by the angle of that photo, but it is truly a mirror finish.

Re: Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
It's just a protective film..but I do intend to make some out of thin alloy..I'm not going to run it so there is little risk of bending it..the chrome paint on the Bud RC10 looks really sharp trouble is we have limited access to the products that you guys have.fastang wrote:WOW, that is looking great! Re: Progress On My BBT Sprintcar
Be on the lookout for an old scratched up/faded Hot Trick front end (some guys here may have them sitting around - they seem more common than those pricey new looking or NIP pieces). Recycle/Rescue it from the trash pile, strip the red and polish away any gouges/scratches and you'll have a pretty good match to what you already got going in the rear. The wider front skid plate by HT may work for you. Cheers.Cheers thanks very much for the advise and the comments on my car...there are so many things that I'd like to do to it but most parts are very hard to find. I'd like the whole front end to be alloy but I can't find anything that will fit a car of this age..

That is turning out nicely. what kind of fat tires are you going to run on the rear?
