I wanna build a General Lee. What are my options?
Seeing that video that Halgar posted really inspired me. I really want to build a radio controlled General Lee. But, it looks like my options are very limited. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of 1969 Dodge Charger bodies in the r/c world. I've seen several people selling decal sets on ebay. The best looking Charger body I've seen is the HPI one, but I think it's going to be too narrow and too long for a touring car chassis, which would be an ideal platform. Tower says it's 7" wide by 19" long, with a 12" wheelbase. How wide is the average touring car?
Did Bolink or Parma ever make a 69 Charger body back in the day? It would be sweet to get an older style lexan body that would fit over a gold tub RC10 and build a Dead Pool style General Lee.
I've got a Mini Z Ferrari F40 that I never use that would seem easy enough to convert with a model kit, but I'd really like to do a 1/10 scale car.
Thoughts?

Parma made a Charger body....but it wasn't very accurate.
I have a real Charger...so I'm always looking for accurate models, bodies, etc...

Re: I wanna build a General Lee. What are my options?
Yeah, it does look great. I'm just worried about it's width. I'm thinking a touring car might be too narrow for it. I'm not very worried about length, as I could always stretch a chassis to make it fit.
Also, does anyone know for sure if the HPI body comes with a piece to fill the hood in for that awful blower that's molded in? I had one of their El Camino bodies once and it came with a piece to fill that in with. That is one thing I really don't understand about HPI, molding those hideous blowers in their hood, they're not even the right scale for the body.

Hahaha.....
Yeah...those superchargers are hideous...I had an Elky body too. The Charger comes with a filler piece as well.
I'm gonna say the HPI Charger body will be a "hair" too wide for a touring car.....but it may be @ right for, oh say, an RC10L.

Really? I figured it would be too narrow for a TC. Too wide I can work with. Hmm, if that's the case I might have an easier time than I thought.

I know it's a long shot, but look for other toys with the General's body that you can cannibalize. Nikko has some pretty close Clod scale Jeep bodies, they may have produced a General or two as well. If you can find a decent sized body, then you can go about modding a chassis or making a custom chassis to fit the body, then utilize whatever running gear platform you wish.
Another idea would be to contact the maker of the vid to see if they've got any hints on where to look for a body.
Can't wait to see this build project if you go forward with it.

Re: I wanna build a General Lee. What are my options?
Yeah, I thought about that too. I saw one r/c General on ebay that said it was 20 inches long, which should make it just a tad larger than 1/10 scale. I'd like to do a lexan body if I could, cause it will take more abuse and I do plan to do some jumping of course.
But, I suppose if it was already it an r/c General, the body should be molded in a pretty durable plastic and in the right color, so I wouldn't have to worry about a paint job.
Anybody know how wide an RC10DS is? I never had one and just thought of that on the way in to work today.

that should do the job, assuming the site is still active.

Re: I wanna build a General Lee. What are my options?
Someone bought them out w/rights to the name several years ago and the new folks have been running for a while now. It was just after I paid a Steve a visit to pick up my load, I can't remember the year. Glad I did when I did, otherwise I might not have gotten the opportunity to get what I did.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

it sounds like he split up the company? rjspeed.com has a lot of the bolink racers back in production, legends and dragsters. http://www.rjspeed.com/
I just noticed, thanks to this topic, that the DIGGER is BACK!
Talk about a basic RC. I've got to get some for the kids to abuse.

see if 'Lex notices what I think I did on the lid.

What was the deal with Bolink again? I remember reading some sort of apology for being an idiot somewhere? I don't remember when or who wrote it.

Thread Hijack Warning!!!
I have been thinking that a slash might make a cool looking General Lee.... The wheels will drop out on the jumps and what would the Dukes be without a lot of slipping and sliding around the corners and jumping creeks? I would absolutely love to see a vintage sheriff car chasing a General Lee...
