The hardest parts are the Chassis and rear gear box housings .

If you have them intact you should be good.

I splurged and bought alloy wheels for mine than custom made some tires for it.

I have the original tires and wheels, for rear and front, new and used respectively.

The gearbox has crack here and there but not in the critical location and can be fixed by applying glue (I hope so)

Chassis seems to be ok. Need body shell and decals as well.

Try to fix it but my limited knowledge in this kit worried me. (Especially the size of the screw to be used)

Reading this manual gave me further head ache, this used bushing and not bearing.

Now looking for the right bearing is a tough luck, as the manual didn’t mentioned anything about the sizes.

I must admit the rear gearbox is pretty complex having a center diff in there but it goes togeather well. Took me a few attempts with the manual in hand. It took the longest of the rebuild.

The bearings was a headache too until somone posted the seizes up on the Tamiya club than i ordered a set from a bearing place here. This model has a very low parts count to keep weight down. Was just over 1000g w/o battery.

My body set came from TBG and decals of Tamiyoman i think.

Still to run mine but its all ready to go.

Is the Marui Samurai has two different chassis in terms of color?

Mine is yellowish but I saw a lot of silver in color.

Brandon Marui's one side is silvers the other side is yellowish like mine (based on the photos shown in the link)

Just want to know as I like silver

Need some advice from you guys

I have started to strip the kit today and found a lot of things need to be changed (not in my expectation)


First the shock

Do you have any suggestions on how to remove the stubborn rust on the shaft? The image below shows the actual condition of the shaft.



When I tried to unscrew the head it becomes circle, due to the rust and age. My best bet is to saw the screw across the head so I can use the flat head screwdriver.



If everything goes not well, any alternative shocks that I can use?

I think they are too far gone.

My Samurai has original shocks on the back with a Kyosho Gold Damper up the front.

I guess to keep it period correct ether Kyosho Golds or Rc10 shocks.

That's what i would use.

I'd agree with Mark. You could remove much of the surface rust by soaking the shafts in Coca-Cola for an hour, then scrubbing them with some wadded up aluminum foil. However, this won't do anything for the pits in the steel that the rust will leave behind, and those will probably leak oil as a result. Sometimes when parts are too far gone, it's not worth the effort to restore them only to have them not function properly anyway.

Thanks for the tips and suggestions, right now I'm trying to salvage some parts.

Part of me, yelling this is a hopeless car

But part of me is a bit excited, this is the hobby all about, spending time, efforts and money
