Icarus
Re: Icarus
Toy like? If I remember correctly, the Icarus came out in '84. It was actually pretty impressive for the time. I love how different it is compared to the other vehicles out there. And while I only had one Kyosho growing up (a Raider), rebuilding the Kyoshos have been my favorites. It's really cool to see how much different they are compared to the rest.

Re: Icarus
Toy-like by Kyosho standards was probably equivalent to all of the beginner-to-intermediate-grade Tamiya models--which were much more popular but were similarly plas-tastic. The Icarus was far from an Ultima or Optima but definitely better than a lot of the other entry-level cars back then, like the Grasshopper/Hornet, Frog, Marui Hunter/Galaxy, etc.

Re: Icarus
The icarus came a later than 84 but not much, must be 85? It also had oil shocks as opposed to the pegasus/bandido. And yes the arms were part of the chassis, the flex of the plastic was how they articulated. It was a pretty good deal at the time as it had both a mild mod motor and the hydraulic suspension... all still bolted on to a POS car though

Very very disruptive for the RC industry!
I have a NiB Cosmo - the body looks super cool, plus it has that pinion/clutch thing on top as standard as well as the oil shocks - no mild mod motor though
Pegasus/Icarus/Cosmo, cool line of entry level cars

Re: Icarus
Does look like it came out in '85 from the searches I did this morning.
Another add that was posted at the above link. I love the way this car looks.

Re: Icarus
I happen to have all 4 not much in performance but I think they all look super cool other than the Bandido

Those are my toys and no I will not share!
Re: Icarus
My mom hooked me up with some cool goodies for the Icarus at Christmas. I sent her the links to a few ebay auctions and she ended up grabbing some new front tires (4 sets actually lol), a new chassis, and a new set of wheels. I still need to pick up some rear tires and a few other goodies to really get this project underway but I have a good start.

Re: Icarus
Nice find! My very first buggy was the Cox Bandido and I loved it. The best part about it was when you turned it upside-down and saw a huge Kyosho logo on the bottom of the pan. The one flaw it had was the front A-arms. They would pop off the ball joint on every hard landing, making steering impossible until you pop 'em back in place. A lot of fun that buggy was though!
