The ebay one was fully restored which in my book is no longer original. Finding a true original t/a today that has not been torn apart and redone is hard. I own a '77 and has 68k on the clock and retains the original paint, interior, one original tire  and is just like you saw it in '77, a true time capsule. If the one your looking at is completely stock and original than 18k is more than fair. I would still get the pontiac paperwork from historic pontiac division showing it's a true SE before dropping that kind of cash.

I remember a bit about them (I helped restore a 76' 6.6 with a Muncie M23 fine spline trans when I was 15) the SE was trim, striping, wheels and interior?

Yes the SE was a trim package. Gold wheels, striping, dash plate, steering wheel..ect. Heres mine that I call brownie. Not a SE but has some rare options. Brentwood brown, 400 4 speed, hurst tops, deluxe 2 tone int., 8 track with am/fm red dot flip radio , factory bird delete, and other cool little do dads. The original paint is not great but still there. The carousel red one is my brothers car that he's owned since '81. I have a cameo white like his except with the 455 4 speed that we battle about all the time

"factory bird delete"?

Pardon my ignorance - I'm from across the pond and am fairly clueless with regards to US cars, but what does that mean?

I would guess that means no screaming chicken decal on the hood.

Then what about the 440 then?
A 440 is Mopar's big block. I don't think anyone answered that.

I like it but I would much rather have a four speed.
