The old Bandido body turned out ok for a runner. Ended up painting it on the otuside, and made some simple decals out of sign vinyl. Now I need to find or make a wing.

Nicest Bandido that i have ever seen.

Is that an EZrun I see poking out there? Guess I can stop worrying about the gears holding up...

Yeah we used ezrun brushless systems in our beach runners with no I'll effects.
We also ball raced the gearbox to eliminate as much friction as possible

I think what matters more than the *brand* of ESC/motor being run is their power rating. EZRun makes a whole lineup of ESC/motor combos. Put an 18T motor & ESC combo in a 1:10 offroad buggy and it'll be slower than with a stock Mabuchi 540 in there. Put in an EZRun 5.5T combo in there and you'll blow the gears out in minutes.

A 13T would probably work fine for a Bandido.

Yeah, I know. I was just using "EZrun" as shorthand for "cheap brushless system." I have two of these gearboxes, and they both sound like electric drills having a bad day, even with full ball bearings and 540s. So I was encouraged to see that they will, in fact, take more power than the "mighty" silver-can, so I can stop worrying.

To my surprise the gearboxes handle the power of not just the motor and lipo's but also the drag of the wet sand. Both Besty and my Bandido's have had no problems aside from the plastic driveshaft copping some extra wear.
I've rebuilt my gearbox and after a good clean I haven't seen any issues with the gears. They both sound just fine.

The race track however, might prove something entirely different. I don't think these cars make the best vintage racer come race day.

Just my opinion.
