Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
Thanks for the the PM and your help.
For now, I'm going with the above wheels and tires since I already bought them but hey, they'll wear out someday Maybe I'll give those a try next time.
Have any ideas for a front bumper, other than the stock nTC3 one (http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXKNY1&P=7) , which sits basically horrizontal?
Maybe this one http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXBLX5&P=7, then I could make an aluminum skid plate that would sweep upward?

Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
thats one thing I never addresed. I hacked the crap outta the one but never went any further I'm not a big fan of aluminum bumpers since one hit and they stay that way but there are bumpers out there that can be modded to fit...just gotta find the right one

Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
Got the new shoes mounted! I really like the way it looks
I also got the battery mounting all sorted out. I put a couple short aluminum standoffs in the inboard side to keep the battery in place, on the outboard side its constrained by the lip on the chassis. On the two ends I put standoffs to mount the cf strap I made from a chassis brace. I added foam tape to the chassis too to keep from rubbing off all that blue anodizing. That battery ain't going nowhere!
The ride height looks pretty good, although its maxed out here, so it will be a little lower when I dial it in.
On the rear suspension, after a lot of experimentation, I figured out that if I space the camber links at the hub end by at least .140", it will have the full range of travel without them binding. And this is on the upper hole on the inboard side, which seems to maintain the suspension geometry best through the travel range. Basically, I just added 5/32 spacers between the ball joint and the hub, problem solved:

Those tires and wheels look perfect on there! That car should be able to handle some serious abuse.

Those tires are hardcore.
I miss brushed motors in that hazy, everything seemed better when I was a kid, kind of way.

I got my cf chassis brace yesterday made by Seabass. It bolts to tbe front and rear trans cases. Fits perfect! The chassis is *really* stiff with the brace on, stiffer than my b4 by far

Looks good and it makes me even happier to have another person on the books that I have helped out.

Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
Thanks Jake. Hopefully I'll have it running by next weekend. I just need to tap the holes in the motor mount, swap in the .56 stroke shock shafts, mount the esc and receiver, and wire it up. I ended up buying a 4600 kV Sidewinder for it, should be pretty fast.

Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
IT LIVES!
I drove it around the street for about 5 minutes in the dark last night It's pretty fast and handles great considering I haven't dialed it in yet. The acceleration is "bat out of hell."
Still left do do:
Rebuild shocks with .56 stroke shafts
Antena mount
Make new front bumper
Replace suspension pivot balls with titanium ones
Buy and paint new body (still planning to go Porsche 911)

Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
I rebuilt the shocks with the longer shafts and put in the lightest springs from my ft set and took it to the track on Saturday night. I took it off a couple pretty big jumps and it flies nice and level. The main problem I had with the car on the track was that the front bumper was plowing into the ground a lot since its basically level to the ground. I have plans to make a bumper that sweeps upward. Other than that it handled the track surprisingly well. The guys at the track were all flipping out over it when they saw me running it, since it looks like a touring car (for now still running the Crowd Pleaser body).

Re: nTC3 electric/brushless rally conversion
That looks great! I have a TC3 Factory Team NIB that I've never bothered to build. Kinda makes me think I should. I really like the way that looks.
