New body styling-

The styling isn't for me, but it IS growing on me. The funny thing to me is that when a new 2wd or 4wd car or truck comes out on the market, everyone is fast to jump on the manufacturer as making "just another B4 clone," or "just another BJ4 clone," or whatever. I watched guys haze the new Tamiya buggies right here in this very forum (and others) as not being original or not doing anything different.

Then when a company like Jconcepts "does something different" they get abused for it. Seriously, pick a lane.


I don't know if I would race with a body like that personally, but I applaud Jason Ruona and Jconcepts (and Proline for copying the look) for doing something different than every other electric buggy out there.

hell if its downforce you want lets all just run old batwedge bodies on buggies and be done with it

I am not for the new look, I guess its because I am used to the "real look" of the old style bodies. But some progress has to be made for the racers - if they see the advantage good for them. But to me this is just a repeat of what we have all seen in other classes...

When we ran 1/12 on-road (6 cell asphalt) and 1/8 2wd IC Pan the bodies were not as aggressive (take the McAllister RM1, or the old 1/8 Vettes and Ferrari bodies) as they have become today. With the advancement in tires, the only way to use the new found grip was to redesign the bodies - as such 1/12 and 1/8 on-road have now come to resemble upsized Slot Cars.

But I do not race competitively, and actually would like to see the class go on with progress, I will sure miss the old style rear seat buggy bodies, as now the front / mid seat (Crawler) style bodies are sure to take over.

Oh well. at least the wing is still in the back

I am running the Jconcepts Punisher tonight against their High Flow- I'll give some feedback on the differences on the track. All that said, I just think that they look a bit "cartoonish" now, ( again ) if it's faster I don't care what it looks like!

Well, although the PL Bulldog is still fuggly-the JConcepts Punisher ran like a champ!

I brought the FT T4.1 out for testing since it is the easiest to drive between the 2 trucks, to start off I will say I ran-

1) The fastest lap I have to date
2) The most combined laps in qualifying in the "B" re-sort "mixer heat"

and--this was after I had to switch to the non-preferred tires ( I over sauced the supersofts and they were gumballs and undriveable ) , and the track was the coldest it had been all year and rather slick overall compared to normal-

The Punisher was about the same feel on corner entry, but way faster from the center off and exit rear end holding was way better as well, it was nearly Twice as stable in the full throttle right hand sweeper ( very fast corner ) It also jumped with a more nose down attitude, which set you up naturally for the downsides as well.

i like the truck body alot.. whats up with the buggy body?? . it looks like the stock front body mount will not work .. maybe just the angle of the pic??

I would agree with most in saying the bodies are (cough cough) "unattractive", however I do applaud Jconcepts for doing something different. One thing than hasn't been touched on yet however is the change in weight distribution that you get with a body where much of the mass has been moved to the front of the car vs. the rear. A buggy body can weigh up to 3 oz painted, and shifting 30% of its weight forward is the same as adding an ounce of lead the the front of your car. I know I can feal a difference with that. Most people (usually engineers) will swear that there is no way something like these bodies could make a noticeable performance shift. However in our particular niche, our cars are tuned so finely for racing, that very small adjustments to weight distribution as well as aerodynamic changes, mean noticeable changes on the track to a well trained, seasoned driver. BTW, weight distribution is one of the most important overlooked aspects of tuning. my .02-Jeff

Bad then and worse now! but to each his own!
I will say that it is nice to see some change in the styling even if I dont care for the "new" Look.
