I was always curious about the mono shock setups. Why were these so popular back in the day?
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

I don't remember them being popular, I just think they are cool.

Back then everyone was trying everything. The mono shock allowed the front end to rock back and forth to absorb some of the terrain. Didn't work everywhere for sure. Years later Dunn brothers used a dual shock but rocking system that emulated a mono shock on a Kyosho Lazer iirc. It was a one race deal, that track must have liked it. I seem to recall even the original Ultima was slated for a mono shock and changed to dual in final production.

Other than the handling characteristics there was also the weight saving , there's a reason you see so many drilled and milled out chassis , battery life was so limited it was all about going as fast as possible for the race duration , the lighter the car the higher you could gear it without the battery dumping on the last lap !
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

Today was finish off the 99.9% done projects day. The A+ chassis buggy just needed a front sway bar to be done. I tried to make some Dubro link ends work but in the end a 71091 DR10 sway bar kit, some 1/8" sleeves, and some 1/16" wire came together to make a nice setup that eliminates the teeter totter front end movement.

It's nice to have this one done... again... for the last time. 😁
