This time, there is the look, the intended purpose and the additional functionalities...

PLA impression in progress to check everything is fine

If everything is fine, those parts are going to be published on Thingiverse during the weekend...

Final prints will be in PETG with infill at 100%. That should be largely strong enough for what I intend to do with those parts.

Printed with settings to make it quick. The print is not perfect, but for a test, that is making it.

Dimensions are fine, but the place where there was contact with the supports makes it slightly difficult to engage...

I will need to review the top of the part to reduce the thickness, as looking at some pictures provided by Optimaforever (the guy who has designed the gearbox cover including reinforcement of the shock towers), there won't be enough room to fit both parts. I need to reduce the thickness to 3 mm, potentially 2 (A package with those parts, bumpers and roll bar is on the way)...

All that said, it is still quite promising. I may need to find out how to remove support in a specific area of the print  (this is something I never done before). With each new attempt come new learnings.

Published some parts today on thingiverse
www.thingiverse.com/silvertriple/designs

The last one, the bumper fixation reinforcement, still require work. I may also have to modify the first part I published as well, so they can work together (today, it's either one or the other)...
In short, more thinking, more work :)

If you use Cura slicer there is a support blocker function to stop it printing support in chosen areas .
Try using a hot air gun on the stringing , it gets rid of most of it .
If a jobs not worth doing then its certainly not worth doing well.

I saw there was a functionality in cura slicer, but did not find out how to use it yet.
For the stringing, I don't ind on this part which was intended just to check dimensions. I keep it in mind for my final parts...

The first part I published on Thingiverse has been modified so the shock tower brace wich enclose the shock tower should now work with the rear bumper fixation reinforcement.

I also modified this one for two reasons:
  • its height over the rear bumper was too high to work with my shock tower brace
  • its height over the rear bumper was too high to work with The Optima House gearbox cover including shock tower (I have those incoming in a package, and I'm trying to anticipate this).
A print if in progress, with high quality settings and PETG, and with an orientation allowing to reduce the requirement of supports in some key areas, and I should be able to review the results in the evening...

My son was looking at the complex part I did for the Marui Hunter, and asked me how I did it.

For memory, the part looks like this:
Image

I went into Tinkercad, open the file take a copy, and start to dissociate the different forms I assembled together.
Image

I share this as I think it is making sense for those who are asking themselves how to do... Tinkercad principle is very simple, you take forms and you assemble them together, and any form can have a solid or hole property. Ultimately, it is very simple, and at the same time very powerful...

Few printed parts incoming straight from "The Optima House"

Image

Beside the body shell, that is completing my quest for the 3 Marui Hunter chassis....

And while the reviewed part did print properly as there was a filament jam (need to replace the nozzle), I decided to test the parts with the first print I did...
Image

Accordingly to his test, I can already confirm V2 will be compatible with the parts from "The Optima House". The compliant part will be in published in Thingiverse within the week.

Well, browse thru the Facebook page of The Optima House, there is his gmail address. I knew he was able to provide the bumper as he is selling them on ebay, and I asked him if by chance he was also doing the roll bar. You may contact him by the Facebook page. I know he modeled the whole Hunter and Galaxy, but not all the parts are ready for printing, and I'm not sure he is able to print everything...

Out of curiosity, I also have a question for you: I saw that you have some parts available for the Samurai on Shapeways. Are you going to put the chassis sides there as well?

The chassis is a work in progress , I'm going to start again as the model I drew is kind of messy from all the alterations , I though if I modelled all the other parts then I could use those models to help build the chassis , that chassis is so convoluted in design it's bonkers to model , if you look at my Samurai runner build thread you can see the model .

You may look at what Ryo did with the Samurai, there is some nice renders of the Samurai he modeled as well...

I probably won't have the time to work out the Printer before the week-end. In the meantime, I decided to thinviverse it in work in progress

https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:4965247

While awaiting to have the time to work out my printer, I will probably design one or two other parts...

I think I got a little bit addicted...

This came today
Image

Inside, a complete Galaxy RS, which needs a bit of TLC
Image

And inside the box, there is also some parts and screws...

I will need to change the tittle of the thread, and as well a bigger table for the parts all together...
