What draws you to the vintage?

When it's R/C related, but doesn't fit anyplace else.

What draws you to the vintage?

Post by teshreve »

For me it is mostly favorable memories and the fun of finding vintage stuff in good shape.
...But the new stuff is just as interesting to me. The engineering and quality of the new kits is amazing. My Losi MF2, for example, is the finest piece of RC engineering I own. Its precision and refinement literally force me to tinker with it's suspension when sitting on the table

So far I have recognized...
The reminiscing part.
The sport/hobby of finding/collecting the vintage stuff.
The apreciation for early design concepts? Maybe the "it might be old, but it would still hold up at the track" thinking?

I have noticed many of you really enjoy assembling vintage cars from parts that could have been acquired during that car's era (that didn't come with the kit). I had not thought about this much prior to visiting here. In fact, the times I have done it (to get a car completed), I kinda felt the car was tainted and unpure. I see it differently now and am going to try a project of my own someday soon.

What draws you to the vintage?

You hit the nail on the head.

Nostalgia.

Same for BMX bikes for me too. That late grade school thru high school time. Fun stuff you were in to then, maybe you couldn't afford all the trick stuff, but now you can. Plus, vintage stuff is always cool, weather it's muscle cars or vintage clothing or architecture or films, it's just cool. At least to me. New stuff is cool sometimes too. 8)

Oh ya, that is one part I forgot; being able to afford this stuff!
I buy it just because I finally CAN. And in quantity

I guess it is kinda like getting even somehow?

nostalgia is one aspect for sure. and so is making up for not being a spoiled rotten kid.

i pretty much just like the process of hunting for parts and completing a buggy that you cant just go out and buy off of tower. if i was super duper rich instead of rc10s i'd have a collection of old mopars in a warehouse. but i aint rich, so i build and collect in a smaller scale.
