What's the greatest stock motor of all time?
Sorry, been super busy and away longer than I like, but I am just curious to see what discussion comes up. For me the answer is easy in this category. PRETTY, PUNY, SISSY, LITTLE, WIMPY MOTOR. Strong, reliable and did, does, and always will run strong with timed brushes. Any opinions are welcome. Pics are welcome, but certainly not required. A close second is the Quarter Flash. The first stock motor I personally remember with silver brushes. Not to mention Neon Green was certainly very cool for that time period. Honorable mention goes to the classic Johnson 540 which was, and is a great motor. No vintage Tamiya would be the same without it. Let’s see some great pics and great arguments! Vintage or otherwise what is the greatest stock motor of all time?? (Mods can be kept for another discussion)…

The one, The only - ORIGINAL Yokomo 05R.....cant get more vintage than that - they were the MUST HAVE motor back in the day....
They were the start of the stock motor boom class.
However if you are going for a more recent "ïsh"" motor - has to be the Slot Machine!
Cheers

They certainly were mate, thats what the brushed motor industry was built upon - 3 manufacturers and about 100 "manufacturers"

Re: What's the greatest stock motor of all time?
I think there may be a couple of categories that we're looking at here.
Personally, I think the Revtech with the blue label and 44 degrees of timing was the best (prior to 91). My buddies use to run the B&R bullet and those were also very good.
After the 24 degree rule in 91, it was pretty much trinity's game...

Re: What's the greatest stock motor of all time?
Back when I was racing in AK @ 1987-88, the stock motor to have at our track was a Race Prep.
That or the Trinity Monster Horsepower.
We didn't have much in the way of local hobby shops, so we may not have been "up to speed" with what the hottest "stock" motor was....
Hell, we raced RC10's, Tamiya's, etc on carpet before 1/10th "pan" cars were introduced...

Re: What's the greatest stock motor of all time?
It always seemed the 'stock' motor industry was surrounded by a whole lot of hype way back when. Most people didn't have much more than magazine publications or other racers to learn what was best. I think I ran the Kyosho stock 20 I think it was called. Only cause it was free but the 34 had some go.

My new JRX2 with the Trinity Monster Horsepower stock racing motor always got inspected after every run. Very quick.
