Are the O-rings for front hurts and wing still Ok after all these years ?
It was also my first racing car... it is now completely impossible to find a top cat in this condition.
I kept the box about 10 year to carry my tires on race tracks. I remember very well this paint scheme. Again a wonderfull car for your collection. Thanks for sharing.
Tranny /drive axles / front suspension makes this car so unique !
local club president, but also family team manager - mecanic - official sponsor, and some times cruising my RC cars......YES!!!!!!!!!! http://www.bmvrc.com/
I have another quesiton.
As afore mentioned, the O ring that holds the front arms, are they easy to replace?
Mine busted and I have a new pack of them but have not attempted to change it yet. ( But will get to it over this holiday )
Thanks..

@ Peuge73: thanks for the comments and compliments, and yes the o-rings are still in good shape after all these years. I remember when I was racing my Top Cat back in the day that we quickly replaced the stock rubber o-rings with more common and stronger rubbers, and in the end most of the racers ended-up blocking the anti-crash system with 2 screws and a brace because the car was more predictable without the system, but then also more prone to break. A few months later, the "Cougar" front end with upright shocks was already available as a hop-up, the very unique lay down shock set-up had (unfortunately) a really quick life...
@ PrinceSteve: they are quite easy to replace, you just need to unbolt the upper plate from the front end and reinstall them.

Stunning Top Cat Asso!
I have 3 Topcat's plus some spares. I love these cars and who wouldn't? Schumacher's first 'real' 2WD buggy. I loved them back in the day and still love them and race one regularly today. Not the very best 2WD ever made but certainly the most original.
Keep up the great work!
How gorgeous is that! Loving the box art scheme & the painted driver. The Top Cat was my 2nd proper R/C race car too.... unfortunately all I have left is the box
I too also had problems trying to get the front end to work - in fact for me it was the 'peg' in the bulkhead that the crashback bands were wrapped around that kept breaking. I ended up dumping the front end & fitting the suspension off the racer I had previous, a Mardave Meteor (very simple british made 2wd RC10 esque' buggy) The car evolved eventually into a Cougar - like so many Top Cats did.
Would love to try one again & see if I could make the suspension work, now that i'm older and have a bit more technical no-how.
Ive been running a Topcat for the past 3 years at vintage events and up until recently had trouble getting the thing to corner. I worked out by running the optional rear sway bar, narrower front end, less rear droop, shorter wheelbase rear arms and moving my saddle pack lipo's together and further forward the car drives like a dream! The car will never recover well from large jumps as the ratio of the rockers was a design fault (in my opinion) but it does fly lever and is quite fast now. It actualy drives as well as my Cougar2.
Do you run the steering geometery kit as well? I want to run mine at VONATS and to be honest the tight indoor track FRIGHTENS ME! If I cant get the thing to turn I'll be eating dust!
I have seen two variations of CAT box art and am looking for a little clarification. The black with red and yellow striping is the original I am guessing. What is the white box art car? Any help from the schumacher experts would be fantastic.

Hello,
I'm hoping one of yous can help me get this job off the ground, being a bit of traditionalist (or just plain boring!?!) having finally after 18 months got my hands on an original 1986 SWB C.A.T in near mint condition I want to restore her to...

Cheers guys, it's the front panel box image I'm going to go for, just getting graphics drawn out for decals as looks like it'll have to be from scratch - from what I can tell there isn't a boxart SWB CAT (posted as an image on the web) or on any rc...
Cheers for all your help guys..
I've finally finished my mint SWB box art resto, took a good few days, cost me a good few quid but worth it for me to have this baby in my collection.. As of now I've not seen another anywhere.. decided to share the...

Such a nice SWB Cat (probably the nicest out there) - well done on the box art body & faithfully reproducing the decals & making them available for others to achieve the same.
P.S; I recognise your first image from a US based Tamiyaclub member's...
There have been several posts about the box art shocks and also the press car shocks for the original SWB CAT, with questions over the shocks which appeared to be unthreaded Brimod items.
I had heard that Brimod did indeed make unthreaded shocks in...

It's been a while since I posted on here, time to stop being lazy!
I'm mainly a Kyosho fan/restorer/collector but have a huge soft spot for the original CAT. I remember watching an indoor race at Gateshead Stadium when I was a kid and...
When I got my first traxxas fiero when I was like 8 years old, it was a 1402, and it was used so I never saw the box, never had the manual, and never got to experience any of that. a few years later my mom made me throw it away when we moved down to...
Clawing it's way out if a box of styrofoam peanuts is a decently nice original Top Cat! I was really happy to work out a deal for this TC with the buyer of a 4x Schumacher lot. Was a lucky connection after he bought my K1 Aero. The TC buggy design...

Very cool option! Underdog for Top Cat? 🤣 They had a little fun naming that one.
Yup Kevin Frewer has an interesting sense of humour, mind you he is a kiwi after all😂. His hand built tooling and machines are pretty impressive too! I was lucky...
