MIP SP-1? - Help- What's Missing?

Post by metallicats33 »

Well After searching and searching, I finally got a MIP trans. By blind luck, it came on a RC10G roller I got today. Well... I just realized after all this time looking, I knew noting about SP1 other than it has metal gears

This trans does not look complete, could someone let me know whats missing:

I found the SP-1 instructions in the scans archive but that one shows balls in the diff, similar to the stealth. The diff I have here has planetary gears. Any and all info on this trans would be great.

Thank you for your time,
James

There was a gear diff version and a ball diff and so on. Looks like you're missing the SP-7 spur gear mount on the input shaft.

The gear diff version had a slipper mounted on the top shaft to allow the gear diff to not get so abused when landing jumps racing off road. They were essentially lateral friction plates that could be adjusted for tension (opposite side of the gear). Many dirt oval guys removed the top slipper and ran the ball diff solid top shaft for the most positive action and smoothest gearbox ever made for dirt oval racing (IMO).

All you need is a spur gear adapter and you're good to go.

Easily my favorite RC10 gearbox ever, by far. Very rare and hard to find.

If you go to my blog you will find the manual for the sp1 look under rc10 adds and hop ups http://acmracing-vintagerc.blogspot.com/search/label/RC10%20ADDS%20%2F%20HOP%20UPS

Is this the slipper your talking about?

Thank you, That's just what I needed.
Also Are there any other options for the spur gear adapter other than the SP-7?

I need to know the same thing. Just picked up 2 sp1 transmissions as part of a bigger lot, but neither has a spur adapter. The shaft is 5mm, so none of the pinned gears or adapters I have will fit as they are all for 3/16".

Is there something readily available that will work?
