Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
some kind of rb5 rehash... this is pathetic... traxxas really wrecked havoc with the slash, everyone's jumping on some kind of baja/corr bandwagon these days, and this is the lamest attempt of them all I'm afraid...
whatever what was left of kyosho's great days is gone this time - for real

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
i gotta disagree with that, i think the RB5 is perhaps one of the best 2wd offroad cars out there at the moment. the b4 just isnt the best anymore, in my opinion.Lonestar wrote:some kind of rb5 rehash... this is pathetic... traxxas really wrecked havoc with the slash, everyone's jumping on some kind of baja/corr bandwagon these days, and this is the lamest attempt of them all I'm afraid...

this car, ya they are jumping on the bandwagon, but so what. you gonna tell associated they jumped on the tamiya bandwagon in making original rc10 2wd buggies.
this looks like a prett decent car, and if it takes things from the RB5, even better.

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
It looks alright. At least it's kinda scale and not an over the top, unrealistic looking offroad racer spaceship.

It's all the plastic. Everything looks cheap. the cage, the front bumper and especially the boring paint job on th ebody.mikedealer wrote:lol when you put it in that light you are right haha. they probably coulda done a better job with the cage for pete's sake.

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
i agree it coulda had a bit more style, maybe even a aluminum roof plate, and a little angle to the windshield woulda made it loook better, that square shape is just weird.
look how radical the RB5 body looks and you look at this, there is some style (good or bad) in the rb5 body, but here i just dont know

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
I like it.
Finally, form follows function...A buggy that doesn't look like something Buck Rogers or Flash Gordon would drive. Those buggy bodies from the late 80's & up were hideous..
'Looks way more durable than most of Associated's latest offerings...
Compared to the original Ultima, this one's way more scale appearing.
Check any off road magazine (Hot VW's etc.) that covers Baja, Score racing, Nevada desert racing, etc. This is what modern off road (racing) buggies look like.
Let's face it people, everything but the retro & nitro stuff is plastic these days. Aluminum must be expensive in China...
I just wish Kyosho & Tower never parted ways, I would've kept up with the Ultima stuff. Nobody around here sells Kyosho anymore...They lost me after the Ultima 2 went all "Kelron".

Projects and shelfers:
Late Edinger, RC10B2, Dual Sport, GT, Kyosho Turbo Ultima, Triumph, Tamiya Sand Scorcher, Blackfoot/Monster Beetle, '67 Beetle, Nikko Rhino, Traxxas Fiero, Slash, Hand-built Dune Buggy..all on here somewhere...

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
I like it as well but i'd prefer a flat CF chassis instead.
2nd place is just the 1st loser

I'm with you! I love seeing "scale" models actually looking like the vehicle they were designed after.Diggley wrote:I like it.

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
i like this idea ...love the roll bar /buggy body.. i really dont like the wheels/tires ... if everyone used the same size wheels and tires as the J82 Conversion kit i think that would be best...

Re: Ultima Dune Buggy New Release
Mixed feeling about this one. I agree it looks pretty cheap with all plastic parts, but then you could always put your personal touch to it.
Custom tube details, roll cage etc.
With the right amount of plastic gone it would look great!
