Another rear carrier question, adjusting toe-in

Post by aconsola »

this auction:
http://cgi.ebay.com/Associated-Parts-9267-3-Toe-in-B2-B3-T3_W0QQitemZ320098843887QQcategoryZ34063QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
claims that rear toe should only be corrected by changing the arm mounts, not the hub carriers. (Note that they stole the picture of the RPm 0degree hub carriers from my auction)
I know I have on the GT just reversed the hub carriers fo the dirt oval track I race on and have had good results

What is the general thought on doing this? He seems to be strongly against doing so, but his thoughts on the rc10 have been discussed on here before. :D

Ooooh, somebody learned about "ALT+0174" --> ®

Looks like he's done some more "homework" on his history... :roll:

0 toe is 0 toe, no matter how you do it. it is easier to change the arm mount, though. 2 screws, a hinge pin and your done. if you change the hub carrier, now you have to pull the axle pin, axle, bearings, hinge pin, ball stud, tie rod, and maybe have to re-shim the axle.

For the same overall toe in angle placing all of the toe-in inboard will give more weight transfer which gives more off-power steering and less on-power steering (more forward traction). Placing all of the toe-in outboard will stabilize the weight transfer, providing less initial steering entering a turn, and less forward traction but more consistent handling.

I emailed the Ebay guy the above question as well as inquiring about the use of my auction image, and here is his response:

"Engineering defines less strain the further the attachment is from the point of stress. This application where the adjustment is to zero-zero will produce the least stress possible, but a measurable 600-800% increase over a body mount correction. In modeling we use "gigantic fasteners" compared with real connections. Just because there's enough meat to stop a part from failing doesn't mean you've adequately engineered a model. A body mount not only spreads the stress horizontally but also vertically giving a reduction in transfer stress to a savings equivalent to 0.00001 ergs. As for the picture if you want me to apologize I do. However, it's not your picture. It's copyright is held by RPM, did you check and receive clearance from them?"

I guess we were all wrong. :D
As for the copyright, It is my understanding that the rights to the production of item belong to RPM, but the image of that particular unit which was for sale was taken by myself and should be copyrighted to me.

That's a little drastic, especially for someone who is so entertaining :D
I don't mind that he took the pic, I was more curious about the rules regarding that, and secretly wish I could share some of Shodogs spotlight in his posts :wink:

I only said that because I've had one identity theft and several auction pictures and descriptions stolen in the past.

Sorry if I feel strongly about that, I know the guy is misguided, but he did steal your property and ebaY will deal with that accordingly.

Do as you wish... :?
