Where have all the brushed ESC's gone?

Post by RC10Talk »

Need a new ESC for my clod and all I can find is crawler and brushless! I don't understand why manufactures are almost stopping the production of brushed ESC's. Ya brushless is better, but its so fricken expensive! Plus most people have a ton of brushed motors still!

Very frustrating! Looks like Ill have to eBay ESC's from now on. grrr.....

Did you check towerhobbies.com?

not sure what your looking for but here are two pages of brushed ESC's:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=MJD
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0093p?&C=MJA

And I think the natural progression to all ESC's being brushless is attributed to their ability to work with both brushless and brushed motors (most of them) Suxs but makes sense.

I'm using a Traxxas XL5 ESC in my Yoke with a Venom 19T motor. Works fine for me.

Most manufacturers know that brushed-only ESCs are a thing of the past. Neither bashers or racers want them—with the exception of the crawler and scaler guys. Tekin still makes them, but they don't sell many. Novak, too. Plenty of good used ones on eBay and RCtech for not a lot of cash. I have a Tekin G11pro collecting dust somewhere if you want a cheap, quality ESC. If you are looking for a reverse ESC, I can't help you with that.

The reality is that MOST good brushless ESCs also have brushed modes that are easily switched to. Better to have the capabilities to do both brushed and brushless motors than to own dinosaur electronics.

looks like the superdutyXR is discontinued, at least at tower. I just recently got one myself, I'm sure there are plenty of them around. It is huge, but on a clod it doesn't really matter.

In my cars and parts boxes?

I don't have anything brushless. I've had brushless stuff, love it, but I just dont' have anything that needs that much power or speed right now. Clods and vintage stuff is pretty much all I've got.

What do used Super Roosters go for these days? I might have one I can let go.

I used an old dial timer charger up until around three or four years ago when I stepped up to a fancy peak charger. Used it three times and thats been it. Now they're forcing you to go lipo. I probably won't buy any lipo stuff since I drive so infrequently there will probably be something different out by the next time I do.

For brushed esc's I have a regular Rooster and a Tekin in a blue case. I forget what model it is. Oh and whatever came stock in a Wheely King.

The brushed motors are also disappearing , wish I would have bought some of the Team Checkpoint motors that Tower was discounting for $19.95 .

There may be many on ebay but not for dual motors. They are getting scarce!

I run a bunch of Team Orion Method-R's in my clods and the Orion Revolutions in my TC's and Wheely King.

I do agree that brushless is the future and in a way better, but they really need to get the costs down before getting rid of their brushed items......

Super Rosters last I saw were worth $60 or $70 refurbished from Novak I think. Think Ill have to stock up on them soon!

I have not jumped on the Lipo wagon yet either. I'm still using my custom built Team Orion 3300 NiMi's lol
