Monster Frog

Post by Frogwagon »

I love my Frog but was fed up with not being able to keep up with my friends Stampede, so rather than buying another RC, with the help of some broken wheels, heres my solution :D
1/8th scale buggy tires make it alot easier to keep up with taller trucks. After replacing the flimsy little stock tie rods(thanks to some members on here), it worked out pretty well! Just a little worried about the stock gears holding up to the bigger tires. Well tell me what you think and what would be good ideas to make that frog "go" a little better.

That's pretty unique!

I wouldn't think you'd have gear trouble, the Monster Beetle & Blackfoot held up pretty good with the same trans set up.

I'd bet the gear ratio was slightly different though.
Projects and shelfers:
Late Edinger, RC10B2, Dual Sport, GT, Kyosho Turbo Ultima, Triumph, Tamiya Sand Scorcher, Blackfoot/Monster Beetle, '67 Beetle, Nikko Rhino, Traxxas Fiero, Slash, Hand-built Dune Buggy..all on here somewhere...

I don't know if the originals came with this but the re-releases came with three different spur gears.

I'm not sure if the original came with any more spur gears but mine has the 52t in it, mine is from the 80's by the way lol. it i could get the different spur gears for mine that would be great! I know i do need that axle convesion kit tho before i strip out the factory hex shafts. Tody was the first day i actualy ran it, it seems to work great. It doenst slide very well, i need softer shocks i think. I should have some videos up on YT soon.

You can find the gear sets on eBay for pretty cheap.

I bought those front and rear shock mounts you're talking about from CRA. I was very happy with the product itself but theres a problem with packaging.

All of the hardware gets dumped in the same bag with the anodized pieces. So consequently during shipping the hardware scratches the finish. Since the sellers in Canada the majority of the shipments have to spend a longer time in transit which increases the chance of damage.

I sent an email explaining the problem and suggested they put the hardware in its own little bag. I don't know if they have since taken the advice or not.

Gearing might become an issue with those tires. The Blackfoot had a motor plate and 9 tooth spur gear to turn those larger wheels

With a 18t motor it wheels stands on take off and thats with a 52T spur gear and 10T pinion. Everything seems to be holding up pretty well, need a softer tires tho because it doesnt like to turn lol.
