G'day guys I finally got myself a Bigwig. When I saw this for sale, I did some research & found that it seemed to be a bit hit & miss model for Tamiya. i found more negative comments than favourabel ones. But, despite, I could not get over the looks, I really liked it more than my Hotshot, so I thought that I take a chance & buy it to see what I could do with it. I bought it from the original owner, came with box, manual, Technigold & lots of new spares. I immediately bought a new body & repro decals, new tyres, the rest was in really good condition. I really wanted to do something different than Boxart as there seemed to be so may done this way, so, I painted the body with pearlescent clear, than black, then white, so in the sunlight the black is metallic, I painted the front & rear shock towers black, threw out the yellow shocks & replaced them with yeahracing chrome items. I also had the drivers roll cage, airdam & exhausts chrome plated , then I sprayed them with Tamiya gloss to give that alloy look. What was it with Tamiya & yellow plastic? I also painted the engine block silver for some detail as well. New bumper has been cut down as I think it looks better like that. I think the rack & pinion steering is brilliant! It won't be to everyones liking, but I'm wrapped with it! It will be my 4WD vintage racer, a 5000lipo should get that Technigold going! Action pics will follow

I also have just bought a Big wig.

Plan to mod it with yeah racing shocks, cvd's , 2.2 wheels, brushless 9t, and a few other mods.

Got my repo shell and decals . Will be painted Black and yellow. Cant wait to start on it but maybe a while as i have other things on the go too.

Is your shell a teamblue groove repo. Did you have to cut thw back section out??

Hi Mark, yeh its a team blue groove shell & yes I did have to cut the back out. Quite a hard shell to cut out actually.

I was going to get some nice white 2.2 inch wheels for it, but I really want the moondial wheels on it. I will probably just put a sport tuned motor in it for racing in the stock class though.

Yeh I painted the roof gloss black so that the rollcage stood out more

Looks very very VERY good, great job.

I vouch for chucking the YR shocks though... I've had some in my hands before and they are absolutely the worst piece of shock absorbing engineering I have ever had in my hands since I started RC in 1985. They stick like crazy, the piston rubs the body, the holes are way too small, they leak, and the bladder is made of a material that swallows silicon oil like crazy and swells twofold in just a few weeks. In other words, they're even worse than the horrific original yellow CVA's!!! I'm sure there are other chrome-like shocks that work much better...

Still, the thing looks stunning - great job

I realize that there are a few problems with Yeah racing shocks. I have well over 20 pairs of them for all my tamiya cars and it was Jack that put me on to them.

I use Tamiya bladers No leaks. Losi springs ( totally Tuneable)

Losi Gold shafts on my Terror Conqueror.

They work so well. For $!0 they are awesome. Whats more you can get them in 10mm increments and are thredded alloy bodies with alloy bottom stand offs.

I doubt there are any better shocks for the money and can be ordered to fit any vintage car.

I have the yeah racing shocks on 4 of my vintage cars without ever a problem. I like Mark also drilled out my pistons & played around with different oil weights. U also get 2 sets of springs which is more than enough for the type of racer that I am (not much of) & u can actually get these in 5mm increments!
I have these on a sand scorcher, monster beetle, hotshot & now a bigwig.
Plus, they come in chrome! Bling Bling

My first car was a boomerang, which I later converted to a bigwig... bit of a mistake in hint-sight except for the twin shocks upfront.
The body I got for it was 2nd hand and the previous owner used a course metalic dark-blue paint, and JPS decal set. Really was a show-piece but the car didn't do it honours.

Knowing you it would still have the stump pulling Technigold in it.

I might run mine with the Technigold at Boondal.
