Low-Buck Build Off?
Anybody up for an informal 'show off' contest to make the winter pass by a little faster? I was thinking parts trucks/cars built on a low cash-outlay theme, emphasizing custom mods made from inexpensive materials.
Since the idea came from building a car form whatever spare parts are available, any Associated-made parts, from any version of a car, will be allowed. The use of aftermarket parts would be extremely limited, probably just to replace stock parts that aren't available anymore. 'Like for like' as it were. Any other parts would have to be custom made by the builder.
Wheels, tires, and bodies from any manufacturer will be allowed.
Nothing too serious, just a fun event to show off what guys can do with some hand tools and some ingenuity, and show others guy what kind of custom work they can do without needed to buy expensive carbon fiber or pricey tools.
Any thoughts or opinions?

I like the idea. I'm in the middle of a build using an old 10T. I don't have anything super-custom planned....I just wanted to build something a little different using what I had in my parts bins. So far, I have spent nothing on new parts....I think my project qualifies.

Re: Low-Buck Build Off?
i know we've tried getting something like this going a couple of times. there's always alot of talk and interest, but in the end, they end up fizzling out.
i remember one many years ago that was something like a "junk yard dog" kind of contest. more or less, try building the most beaten and battered car you can with parts that you have laying around. lord knows, we all have junk parts that are really no good to you or anyone else. but still, you have a hard time throwing stuff out, so you still have them.
those are the parts you'd use.
seems it's hard to get alot of guys to build much of anything these days. unless they are and just not showing them off........

I have a 10+year, on-going, ghetto-fab JRX2/junior hybrid that I keep telling myself I'd finish.
So if Losi's are in, so am I.
Dude, I'll throw it together tonight.
Caveat: you cannot judge me on the basis of this build!

Myself, I've shown off everything I have done over the last year, including an ongoing 10L runner, a nearly complete graphite team car runner, and a Andy's truck conversion runnerscr8p wrote:seems it's hard to get alot of guys to build much of anything these days. unless they are and just not showing them off........

The thing is, I just cant seem to build them in a low-buck fashion

Maybe it's the addiction in us all...I think we just want to get our builds to the level to show off to all the die hard vintage guys here. Lets face it, there are some highly skilled guys here and even more awesome builds.

Re: Low-Buck Build Off?
I'm up for the challenge I guess. There goes my no new car rule for this year
I have a bunch of left over parts from the last couple of years, just need to buy some more parts...I didn't tell myself I couldn't build a new car, just not buy one
I see two Losi entries above, I suppose those are junk anyway. One of those will probably win

thats just not nice

Re: Low-Buck Build Off?
It won't be totally stock...I'll add a few things from what I have laying around to make it a little different. More "COSTUME" than "CUSTOM"!SteveK wrote:Aw man, you gotta do SOME custom stuffsneako43 wrote:I like the idea. I'm in the middle of a build using an old 10T. I hope more people jump on this idea.
If nothing else, it will give people some ideas to build something different. All the shelf builds are sick but seeing a bunch of builds that are gonna be beat up is even better!
