RC10Talk's "Low Buck Build-Off"

Post by scr8p »

alright, guys are showing interest in this idea, so here we go.

the goal of this contest is to not build some kind of pristine shelfer. utilize old parts you already have. use parts on your car that weren't designed to be on it. make your own custom, one-off parts. get creative.

i think March 1st, 2011 will be the cut-off to submit your entry. 5 weeks should be enough time, i'd think. once the deadline is reached, depending on the amount of entries, the sumitted vehicles will be placed in threads with a poll at the top. being as though you can only have "X" amount of poll choices, we'll probably have to use an elimination type format, and keep doing the polls until we declare a winner. the winner will receive a custom embroidered rc10talk hat provided by myself. and if anyone else want to add something to the grand prize, feel free.

any questions, post them up.

now, go build something!!!!!!!!!!

Are we listing our build threads a LBB0 so they can be "eliminated" for the finals?

i think what we can do is just have regular build threads. they don't have to be specifically marked. once someone is done with their build, they can post the link to it in this thread, along with their one favorite pic of it.

if your build thread is not linked to this thread by march 1st, you are not eligible for the contest.

I figure limited aftermarket parts would be ideal; either stock or custom-made mods, preferably 'on the cheap'. Make what you don't have, know what I mean?

Sounds good. Hopefully I get my RC10 in this week. I traded some old parts so it's really going to be lowbuck!

Now what about some rules or guidelines. I vote it has to be running!

Agreed, has to be a runner.

I think the rules should be pretty simple; all parts must be made by the original manufacturer, but can be from any car they make. Any non-factory parts should be custom-made if possible. Use what you have and make what you don't, minimal cash outlay.

Of course allowances would be made for a hard-to-find part that would otherwise cost a lot to buy.

Body, wheels, and tires are open; use whatever you like there.

Thanks SteveK for posting the original idea and thanks to scr8p for making it "official". I'm really excited about this ... I'm curious to see what the members can come up with. I operate on a shoe-string budget so this my kind of build-off!

I've got a drill and a bunch of spares...

That's exactly the spirit my man! A drill, a saw, and some spare raw materials; maybe aluminum from Lowes or Home Depot, pieces of and old retired pan car chassis, or whatever you can find.

This is how I built my last RC10. Can I submit something I've already built and drive?

Intresting . I like it. I have done the rc10 with 10t parts. b3 with t3 parts. All I have left are rc10 and losi parts. The two together would be a bad marrige  . What the hell work is slow I am in .
