AE Reedy modified motor info.

Has anyone got any information on this motor?



I got it in a box if parts and just wanted to know what it originally came with and what wind it may be. I tried searching the forum but i couldn't find one like this.

I had some of this era motors. They went by color, I.E. pink dot, blue dot, red dot ect. I think that the red dot was a 17 turn, the pink maybe a 15 turn.

It should have a tiny sticker on it saying what it is....not turns but a colored sticker ie
red dot its and red dot
goldstar well you get the picture.

The dot or star are those that tells You the wind. They are in can near one of the endbell closing screw under the big Reedy sticker. It seems to be there but I could not see the color of the dot from that angle.

Thanks for the tips. I've looked where you suggested but there is only a white sticker with timing marks on it. I can't seem to find any dots or stars anywhere so maybe they've been rubbed off over the years. Thanks anyway

Thanks! That solved it, i took it apart and it's marked on the stack (hand wirtten) as a 21 turn.

I'm assuming it's a hand wound motor then?

Are you sure it's 21, and not something else (perhaps the 1 is first, like 12 or 13 or 17 or something)? if the writing was sloppy it could maybe look like 21 if it were upside down.

just asking because 21 seems like an uncommon/unlikely wind. there was plenty of 27 turn motors (stock), plenty of 19 turn motors (outlaw stock / west coast / whatever), and the common "mod" winds typically started around 16 and would go down to 12 or 10 or so.

stock ranged from 34t and some other random turn and that was when you could "adjust" the timing via L wrench, pinion and pliers the lower turns like 10's-13's were more popular in the "Left Coast" because of the track types IMO

I remember the "Dots" being a couple years later than '87. I still have a Yellow dot that is a 15-turn. Used it in my 10L Graphite and bought it new at the same time as the 10L.

I think that green label motor was 85-90 but I might be wrong
