any of you old school dudes remember these? gimmick or not, it was just too rare to pass on so it became one of those items i was definitely going to win nomatter what.
just looking at the parts its not easy to see how it mounts to the chassis. did any of you ever see one of these in person bitd?

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
I do remember seeing that in RCCA back in the day. Probably in the new product announcement section. I don't ever remember seeing one on a car though. I think RD Enterprises offers something like that for sprint cars.

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
kinda hard to tell from the pic, but it seems like it'd be similar to the custom works slider setup. and melvin's correct, rdent has one that mounts to the front shock tower of their sprint car conversion.

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
that rdent one if freaking trick as hell, i didnt know it existed. that one works just the same as the andys with a slider bar.
i dont think this is intended to mount that way, it has a splined shaft just like a servo and its just not setup right unless you also mount the servo on the tower.
i'm kinda scared to open it if it wont fit my needs. how freaking sad is that?
i could seriously adapt this to a wicked awesome rear dig system on one of my crawlers.

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
pretty darn slick...
i bought that other one. i seriously may use these on one of my crawlers, they look beefy enough. i'm torn though... its a kind of vintage buggy sin in a way.
i took pics, will post later.

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
Why not just keep the vintage parts and buy some of the new RD pieces to run on your crawler?
Here you go, an ad from the January 91 RCCA.

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
i was just brainstormin with the crawler idea. i dont think i have it in me to butcher a vintage piece like this for a crawler... YET.MelvinsArmy wrote:Why not just keep the vintage parts and buy some of the new RD pieces to run on your crawler?
the rd steering isnt rack and pinion, its just a slider like the andys steering. this is a true rack and pinion setup.
heres pics:

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
i believe the r.d. enterprises rack is actually a custom works rack turned around and laying on its front and bolted to the tower. mounting it laying down puts the rack at the same height as the original bellcranks vs. up high like custom works.their bulkheda is higher so the rack is higher. i believe they sell for 8 bucks at tower vs. 12 bucks at r.d enterprises.

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
That is cool hoop. The other Jason needs to post some pics from the Andy's piece on the Andy's project.
Can you guys confirm that RD does still take orders for parts on their site?
Thanks!
Jay

Re: Holeshot rack and pinion steering
when ever i got stuff from ray at r.d. i always called him on the phone just to make sure he had it in stock. he does take orders by email but i dont think the website gets updated too often other than his closetouts page which he updates pretty regularly.ray is a gret guy to deal with and his stuff is top notch. the Aluminum Beveled Washers he makes work great when using heim style rod ends, they eliminate binding suspension and allow full range of suspension travel. it was a real shame he closed his track i was only there once as a spectator but that place was awesome.
