nope, all custom color mixes necessary, particularly the orange, not so much the other colors. couple of guys have figured out something close, but like the colonel's chicken recipe, it's highly guarded.

Thing is, unless you have the original shell in front of you, it's impossible to accurately match the colours, even the colours on the box are subject to printing variations, not too mention the fact that many have faded over the years. Lighting used when the photo was taken can alter how some colours appear. If you are working off an image on a computer screen, your settings will alter colours too
Thing is to just play around with paint mixes until you get something that you are happy with, at the end of the day no one can be right or wrong

What paint did they use back in the 80'S . Iam thinking pactra orange backed up with black.
Re: Paint codes for Rc10 box art?
Here is what I used, all rattlle cans. Check the buggy forum under Readers rides or do a search under box art and you will find some photos of my car.
OK here are the spray cans I used on this one:
Tamiya PS-19 Camel Yellow main body
Tamiya PS-33 Cherry Red accent stripe
Pactra RC252 Blue Streak accent stripe
Tamiya PS-3 Light Blue accent stripe
Pactra RC251 Sprint White accent stripe
All colors were backed with silver to prevent bleed thru. Overall I'm very happy with how it came out, only mistake was I messed up on the rear wing and put the pink on the bottom instead of the top. Will eventually correct this when I find a correct wing

so that camel yellow is pretty much orange, or did you blend it? If you didn't, man, that is sooo close it's gotta be what was used for the boxart..
Re: Paint codes for Rc10 box art?
That is straight out of the spray can. I thought it was just about a perfect match.

Beautiful work. I am a noob when it comes to paint. That's why I paid a small fortune for my body.

When you say backed with silver, does that just mean after you spray on a few thin coats of the colour you then spray it with a thin (or thick?) coat of silver as well?DougH wrote:Here is what I used, all rattlle cans. Any silver in particular you would recommend?

Nice work.
I use Tamiya cans exclusively. I found their lexan paint to be superior many years ago.
When you "back" a color. You are just painting a thin coat behind the first color you painted.

Tamiya aerosol paints are great, good spray pattern, especially when heated in warm water. Tamiya paint doesn't stick as well as Pactra in my opinion though which makes removing Pactra paint impossible.
Regardless of Tamiya/Pactra their flourescent colors don't stick as well as other colors. I just wish Tamiya would make a Chezoom Teal.

And is there any purpose in doing that if I were to only paint the orange and use decals for the rest?SMOKE-DOG wrote:When you "back" a color. You are just painting a thin coat behind the first color you painted.

Re: Paint codes for Rc10 box art?
It keeps the paint from being opaque. If you only put orange on it you will probably be able to see thru the paint a bit. Backing it also gives you a chance to change the color slightly. Backing with silver, white, gold etc will all show thru a bit differently
