My next 870C project

Post by RCveteran »

My next project will be a combination of this chassis and driveline which appears to have been the start of someones project, I got this on the bay like a year ago and every part and screw on it is brand new, chassis included. Combined with a farily complete car and a host of NIP parts I think I can come up with an almost new one.

I do not know much about YZ's oddly since I did race one when I was like 14 and it was the first car I ever got a 1st place B-main with.

So....

What spur gear adapter is on the complete car, anything else unique I am not aware of that the Yok nuts see??

Would be a crime to put old parts on the new build. I would search high and low for new bits personally. I'm sure you would be much happier with the end result that way. In the mean time you have the other to prep as a runner :) nice grab.

Think I have darn near enough now to start this and pull off a 90% new build. My patience and wallet are worn out so I am going to get to work.

Wow. Those look real nice. Very hard to find an 870 that's not rusted out.

Nice grab there.. the spur adapter could be a yokomo part or maybe a robinson facing part.. I have both myself.. I'll take a look to see mine and post some pictures.. unless someone else beats me to it..

I'd like to find a nice set of new or like new wheels. That is the most visible part and probably the roughest of what I have. They are out there but pricey.

Curious if anyone has tried the hydrogn peroxide on these wheels? It works well on a lot of old assocaited RC-10 parts.

it would likely work as they are also nylon. I would first do a nice dunk in some simple green for a few days followed by a nice toothbrush scrub to see where they are. I have found this will take out dirt stains pretty well.

Ahh yes, simple green. Fixes anything. I will do that but up close these have some curb rash and scratches that can't be cleaned out.

understood. It works so well for my stuff you have to really get up close to see any chips or rash.

Getting cold out so more "small car" time. Finished rebuilding diffs, they were new, so I just lubed and reassembled. However for spur assembly combining parts but not sure what I have here? The top spur set up (black spur gear) is a one way slipper sort of? Plastic piece jammed in between spur and assembly, not sure what this is/was. Bottom was from the partial new built project I am combining and clearly new non one way set up.

Not sure if the new in parts packages I have can give me one way slipper or not? This is only a shelf build so if I don't have what I need to build one way front in packages I will re assemble without and sell off NIP to someone else. Can someone confirm what I have here and if NIP stuff is what I need for new one way slipper build, I think not??

And while we are pondering big things, crack open NIP tires and clean up wheels for shelf or use modern 2.2 repo 5 stars to showcase suspension and be non original? Please vote

Those jc racing wheels will require custom hubs on the rear for the 870c.

Hello. I cant tell from the pictures what kind of layshaft and parts you have to assemble a 1 way with slipper clutch. I can tell you this though; The slipper assembly will connect to the layshaft with a pin, so it will be locked to the shaft. The 1 way will have to happen inside the front drive pully. So, if youve got a front drive pully with the 1 way bearing inside,, then your good to go.
