A cool hobby shop pick Kyosho ATC 250R

Post by shodog »

Over the last week I took a trip to Texas and Louisianna. I was able to check out a couple of hobby shops. When I go on travel I like to visit the hobby shops in the area to see if they have any good stuff to pick. I found this cool Cox/Kyosho atc three wheeler on display in a hobby shop in Houston Texas.

I have been half heartedly searching for one ever since I saw one in a hobby shop in Denver about 10 years ago. I asked the owner if he would sell it. I didn't want to show my poker face but I really wanted this sucker. He said he would need to call the previous owner to see if it was okay to sell. So I left my number and he said he would call me the next day. Sure enough he did want to sell it for the price I offered so I went back to the shop the next day to swoop it up. Since it was Sunday, the post office was closed so I couldn't ship it home. I ended up flying with it as my carry-on luggage. Luckily TSA didn't give me any grief and I breezed right through security with it. I would like to do a light restore on it but still retain the character of the original build

Cool find! I remember those as full sized bikes. The neighbor kids had them when I was in high school. My main memory was how those suckers would lean going around corners.

I had one of those almost exactly the same as a child, but this one my parents bought while on a trip to Japan. The seat had a vertical section in the rear, like a tall back-rest for the rider, and you could move the pack of batteries (I think 6 C-cells or something) up into the back-rest or down into the bike chassis; when in the back-rest, the bike would do wheelies. I don't think I ever saw one in North America quite like it, but the front fender looked exactly like yours, so I imagine it was from a similar manufacturer. Mine also had rudimentary springs in the front forks as suspension though. I wish I still had it!
