Hello all,
A few weeks ago, I rebuilt my Rc10's differential without removing the transmission. I had to push pretty hard to get it back in. One day, I was driving the car when the transmission started grinding. The car still drove, but it sounded really bad. I took apart the transmission and found a stripped idler. I replaced that, only to discover while reassembling the transmission that the diff tube bearing that slots into the white adapter had disintegrated.
Is it possible that when I pushed the diff into place, I killed the bearing, which then resulted in improper top drive/idler mesh, thus killing the idler? I'm just amazed that such a badly damaged transmission was functional! I have rubber-sealed AE outdrive bearings, and the rest were recently purchased from Avid.
Is the bearing that slots into the adapter and over the diff tube a 1/4 x 3/8?
Thanks.

Re: 6 gear transmisson bearing/idler failure
It's possible that you pushed the shield/race into the cage with the tube and trashed the bearing first-

As a temporary replacement, I am usi.ng a bearing that fits directly into the case with no adapter. Anyone tried this before?
