Looking at the two I'm wondering if this was just a simple difference in the manufacturing or a conscious change? My guess would be the small change would help the flex in the chassis at that point

I just checked several A stamp chassis against my two B stamp chassis and they all seem to validate the difference.

without the relief on the B stamp, when using the second version rear bulkhead that allows you to slide the arm mounts ahead to the short wheeelbase setting, the old style arm (for long inner hinge pin) hits the chassis. once that area is removed it clears.

i wonder if that is actually what an AB stamped tub is......... a 6 gear only tub but notched for the needed arm clearance.

I didn't know that the B stamp chassis were like that but I remember having to remove that bit of extra aluminum from my A stamp when I wanted to mount my rear suspension blocks in the shorter position and use RPM team arms. The aluminum interfered with the arms.

Believe it or not I just looked and my No Stamp is just like the B Stamp (cut away the full 20mm forward of the front arm mount screw hole center). All the A stamps I have (including a light gold Edinger I used for the Curtis replica) is only cut away 15mm forward of the screw center.
