Paint bleed under colors already painted and dried?
I'm currently painting a blazer body for my Axial Wraith. It comes in three pieces that need to be shoo goo'd together. The main body is done and I've been painting the rear section. I finished painting spaz sticks chrome on the rear section, let it dry for two days, then started painting the Pactra Candy Purple on top of the finished chrome. The third light coat somehow seeped behind the chrome and has ruined the paint job on the rear section. How is this possible and what did I do wrong?

I couldn't do it that way due to the supplied masks unfortunately. In the online instructional video, they painted the chrome first as well.

just a guess, but maybe you applied the purple too heavy, and/or applied the next and subsecuent coats to soon, trapping the solvents which softened the chrome.

I haven't used it but I've heard SpazStix chrome is a different animal compared with other paints. I believe I've read that it should always be done last. If you do it first, you'd want to make sure you apply the chrome, apply the special black backing, and then a backing coat of regular black, BEFORE painting any other color.
That's what I've read, I can't comment from experience though.

When I paint dark colors last, I will back with white or silver.... never shot the chrome though....

Any chrome paint really needs backing with black acrylic paint to protect it. Chrome paint for lexan is made of metal particles suspended in a solvent carrier that when it evaporates leaves the metal particles lying on the body in a very thin, even film. The solvent in Pactra paint will attack the film so you need to make sure the Pactra can't reach it. It doesn't matter whether the chrome is painted first or last as long as it is sealed from any solvents.

Ok cool, ty guys for your replies. I guess next time I'll try backing the chrome first before taking off the masks.
