Re: Happy Friday the 13th !!!!
I'm a huge horror fan and the F13 series is one of my favorites. The original movie poster is classic.

The F13 remake was excellent too if you haven't seen it. They really did their homework on parts 2-4 (the best ones) before doing the remake. There's a documentary called HIS NAME WAS JASON that is really good too.

Re: Happy Friday the 13th !!!!
Well, technically there's a snippet at the end of the original that shows him coming out of the lake as a kid, but part 2 is where he really starts. Part 2 is where he made his first real appearance and it's my personal favorite.REMJ666 wrote:When did Jason make his first appearance ?????

Re: Happy Friday the 13th !!!!
I love horror movies, but always hated the Friday the 13th franchise. Halloween was the one that started it all, the "inhuman killer who can't be killed", Michael Myers. John Carpenter is a fantastic director and he did his own music scores, too. There were a lot of details in the first 2 Halloween's that showed Michael was almost more of an animal than a human; after killing someone, he'd cock his head while looking at the body. The back-story was better too, you didn't learn all the details until the second movie. MM never ran, only walked, but no matter how fast his victims ran, he'd always get to them. The featureless mask that wasn't trying to be scary actually made it more scary. As far as sequels go, Halloween 3 had nothing to do with the first two, things got back on track with #4 but the mask looked stupid...the story was decent, though. The rest are entirely forgettable, and you can tell John Carpenter washed his hands of the franchise after #3. Without his direction, it just got sadder and sadder.
I also didn't like how Friday the 13th often resorted to cheap thrills to get scares. Hand-claps on the shoulder only to see it's a buddy, for example; or unrealistic scares like "girl running away from Jason, he's clearly left behind...girl stops in the woods, turns to check on Jason...and he appears in front of her" crap. Friday the 13th also never "got" the concept of suspense. I assume it was more about the cheap thrills and humor, whereas the JC-directed Halloweens were more about story & suspense and there was very little humor at all.
Now, back to your regularly-scheduled RC programming.

Re: Happy Friday the 13th !!!!
I actually agree with all of the above. A couple of the later F13s are quite laughable, but that's part of their charm...
I'm not a huge Rob Zombie fan, but I thought his remake of Halloween was pretty good. The second one had some beautiful imagery, but the movie wasn't all that great. It had some extreme violence in it though, which I know isn't for everyone, but I'm sometimes in the mood for it and that one fits the bill.
All that being said, the original Halloween and Halloween 2 are both masterpieces of horror.

Re: Happy Friday the 13th !!!!
H4 had the best movie poster...I loved it so much, I bought one from a movie theater after the movie stopped playing. I had to have it!
Sadly, the mask actually USED in H4 was so stupid-looking, and not the one on the poster.
That first Friday the 13th poster was a great piece of art, too. EDIT: Whoa...Kevin Bacon??

The little girl Jamie from H4 was in the Rob Zombie remake topless. It was kinda weird for me...

I was born on Friday the 13th. Not in September though.
My favorite scary movie is The Shining. Less slasher, more suspense.

Re: Happy Friday the 13th !!!!
Yes, arguably one of the best. It's weird that Stephen King apparently hated what Kubrick did to his story, but most people think it was a masterpiece. And if you've seen many of S. King's other movies, yeesh...there's been some good ones, but some real cheesy stinkers, too.MelvinsArmy wrote:My favorite scary movie is The Shining. Less slasher, more suspense.
