Left my Lipo plugged in

Post by soniccj5 »

After leaving my lipo plugged in for almost a week I think it is dead. It is puffed up and the charger say low voltage. It now sits in my lipo firebag and inside an old army amo box.

I have a feeling this battery is no longer useful, but is there any slight chance of recovering it?

Thanks

They can be recovered, but ask yourself is it worth it?

The price of a new lipo is low compared to the potential damage that could be caused by a failure.

When they puff they are pretty much done. What is the voltage of each cell?

I've been able to recover LiPo's that are seriously under voltage, whether they recover as good as before that remains to be seen.

Charge the pack in NiMh mode at .5 amps till the total voltage reaches 6v, then switch over to a lipo balance charge. In my experiences some chargers will allow a lipo mode below 6v static charge but many wont. If it doesn't take let the voltage climb slightly higher then 6v and try a lipo balance charge again.

If the pack drops voltage rapidly after unplugging (or changing charge modes) it's toast.

Might head over to the track today and purchase a new one and have them destroy this one.

I agree it is not worth a possible fire to save a couple bucks.

Thanks!

check the voltages on each cell. It's likely that it's totally done, as the way to dispose of them is to discharge to nothing, then throw in salt water for 24 hrs.
