Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
Guys,
I've recently been bitten by the Tamiya bug. I just ordered 3 more kits last night from Tower! Builds on those to come later.
Here is my Wild One I just finished. Customizations include:
Fast Attack black roll bars and nerf bars
Fast attack battery cover (I like the cleaner look of the inclosed battery)
Fox wheels
Custom rear number fin
Custom aluminum front bumper
I'm still not sure if I like the Fox wheels or not. I'm thinking black wheels with white lettering on the tires might look cooler?
Let me know what you guys think!

I like it.. IMHO I'm not totally liking the gold wheels.. it doesn't seem to fit the rest of it.. it doesn't look bad, but it just doesn't fit just right.. I do like the "crazy eyes" of the driver though.. overall I like it with the black rollbar.. nice wild one..

Re: Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
Yeah, the crazy eyes are kind of crazy! Believe it or not, that is the first driver that I've ever painted to that much detail...hopefully my next will be even better. I may try again in his eyes, try to make them look a little more natural.
The gold wheels may move on to a different project. I'm going to dye or paint the white wheels black and then paint the tire letters white.
The silver aluminum wheels would look sharp but I'm not sure if I want to spend that much on wheels...

I actually don't mind the gold wheels...what's killing the look for me is that nas-T stock Mabuchi 540 can.

What would a sexy alternative be? Or just anything besides the 540?

Re: Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
Well the driver head looks great.. I could never paint one that well so I usually leave them off.. I like the idea of the black wheels with tire lettering.. I'm going to do that to my Astute after I get a couple other Tamiya's done so I can just do them all at once.. aluminum wheels would look awesome but I agree the price is a bit much for me as well.. I would rather get another project than a set of wheels unless I have a huge surplus of rc money..

Re: Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
Originally I wanted to use some black wheels and tires from the current Holiday Buggy...I had some aluminum hex adapers but the tires still hit the rear shocks badly. I was so bummed when I couldn't get them to fit right.

Yeah, pretty much anything else. Something with a nice endbell at the very least.orangemazda wrote:What would a sexy alternative be? Or just anything besides the 540?

Maybe a black Sport-Tuned motor, then black wheels with raised white letters?Coelacanth wrote:Yeah, pretty much anything else. Something with a nice endbell at the very least.orangemazda wrote:What would a sexy alternative be? Or just anything besides the 540?

Although, I also don't mind the gold wheels - gives it some Pop!
EDIT:
As I look at it more, maybe go with the black Sport-Tuned motor,
then KEEP the gold wheels and just fill in the white lettering on the tires...

Re: Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
What would look the best is one of Toykid's motors for the Fav/Wildone.

Re: Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
they make those wheels in chrome, that would match the car better. I like the fast attack wheel on them the best. I am with shodog I used the motor on mine made a big difference. I also use a Sport tuned Tamiya motor its black case looks great and it has plenty of power. mine does wheelys on the carpet.

Re: Orangemazda's Tamiya Wild One
Nice work....I really like the FAV black roll bar and nerf bars because they match the chassis which looks more scale. I think the gold wheels look cool and different but I think your idea of black rims with white lettering will look better or at least more realistic.
