Modified Box Art, Restored JRX2...
Modified Box Art, Restored JRX2...
Hey guys, back with an X2 freshly restored, on a budget. That means cleaned, scrubbed, Dremel wire brushed parts, etc. Before you decide to PM me about Masami stickers, thinking that Im slacking, Im waiting for a pressure control inline adapter for my airbrush. Im not painting a Masami without it, and I need to fully paint one, including the rainbow flames, before I finalize the sticker sizes to become available for sale.
Anyway, you might have noticed my recent fire sales, but those are all secondary projects. I have a small fleet of keepers, and this X2 is one of them. I restored the shock bodies on a lathe, turning them down enough to use RC10 shock collars. It just worked out that way due to the heavy amount of pitting in the aluminum. Unfortunately one of the tires was streched out by alot, so I cut out a section and glued it tighter... works for me!
I went with metallic blue because I wanted something different for my persoanl shelfer. The only decals on the body are the logos and Gil Losi sig. Even the number is painted, and its all painted using lexan rattle cans. Now that I have the paint masks pretty much completed, I will be doing more box art and modified box art X2 bodies.
So, I kinda restored the wheels on the lathe, but they are 2 different shades of orange. I'll be painting them tommorow with Tamiya Camel Yellow, which matches the yellow in the paint and decals. Then I'll take better pics in natural sunlight. Its hard to tell but the orange in the body is Pactra flourescent orange, neon baby! I will post updates as they come. Check it out, hope you like it

Yes, it's well balanced and exceptionally pleasing to the eye! (Quite unlike the modern cab-forward sh!-te, IMO)jamin wrote:The Jrx2 looks just so right, even now. Great work and the colours look really cool

Very nice. I'd also be interested in the masks if ever made available.

Beautiful job on that paint scheme, that definitely wasn't an easy masking job! The majority of work involved in painting is in the masking & unmasking, not the painting itself. I'm not really one for stickers, which is why this body is so impressive.
EDIT: Regarding the black wing buttons obscuring the JRX2 sticker, I recently saw some clear wing buttons somewhere on eBay...those would be ideal for your wing.

Agreed...awesome paint job and I couldn't own a modern cab-forward anything. Seems like "they" ran out of ideas so decided to take a page from the 1:1 industry and move the cab forward....mistake!
Re: Modified Box Art, Restored JRX2...
I have always loved the original box art on the JRX2, definatly one of the better box art designs IMHO. Your modified version of the box art looked like it could have been another sub model of the JRX2. It looks like it belongs on a box! Very nice!

Great paintwork. I wouldn't have thought the blue would work but it's AWESOME!

Beautiful, and I am very partial to that blue metal flake color, my very first real RC car, a Fox, back in 1986 when I was 10 years old, was painted in that color.
Keep them coming, you never disappoint.
