Removing a kit box label question

looking to replacing an ugly box label with a much better one from a donor box. I've tried in the past soaking in water, but failed miserably. Anybody ever tried this before? I'm thinking steam, but since I have only one shot at it, thought I would ask for advice.

Only tip I can think of would be to carefully slide a brand new razor under it and try to carefully pull it away as you go. In my mind it seems like this would work better with an ice cold sticker. Steam may loosen up the adhesive, but I'm afraid it would also make the label soggy and very weak. Just a thought. Someone may have a better idea. Good luck.

I've had the labels on both of my CE boxes fall off after the glue got old from sitting.

I'd stay away from anything using water or steam. Maybe try a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the glue?

Steam works for stamps and doesn't make them soggy, IIRC. A heat gun is more likely to damage the paper (either yellow it or burn it) and ink.

How about cutting the donor box in the outline of the label and peel the layer of the box off with the label. It might end up another layer thick but it beats damaging the label.

Thanks for the suggestion jwscab, I'll have to look into it. This is not the label I need, but something I tried about a year ago on a scrap box. I cut the box ends off, then soaked them in water... this is NOT the way to do it. Labels became textured like leather, and all around crap!.... Oh well, it was my first attempt, glad it was on these, and not what I was really after.
