Andy's onroad prototype chassis

Post by hugger19 »

well this chassis has been kicking around on this site for some time. highwayracer got it from andy than sold it to scr8p than i just bought it :). here is the message from highwayracer (I bought a ton of prototype items and which included a few molded chassis. Some were not drilled and one looked like they were experimenting with an onroad chassis. It had bulkheads from a Rayborn envencer. As for that chassis, that was the only one I had. I don't remember if it even had the andy's logo on the bottom...but it was definitely made by andy's.) no andys markings on the chassis. well here are the pics. cant bring myself to drill out the chassis for a build so might leave as is.

Those front end mounting blocks are back to back on the Invencer so your front end is going to be very wide. The original width works out to the same as the outer hinge pin to outer hinge pin distance of a short arm RC10. The rear arms were spaced farther out and worked out to the equivalent RC10 width in back too. The same arm was used at all 4 corners. You can already tell that the parts you have are interchangeable with the opposite side. Incidentally, the diff was always mounted to the forward hole.

I'll try to get you more info in the near future. Holiday season is always busy though.

I was going to buy that car from both highwayracer and scr8p, but decided to pass both times. I just couldn't visualize how to make the rear gearbox work the way it is now, so I'm curious to see what you do with it.

Those invenser gear box pieces look alot like rpm yokomo bulk heads. I wonder if anything would be compatible with yokomo parts.

You never know. The Invencer was actually quite simple in order to keep costs down. If there was an existing part that worked well, it's design was copied. The rear hub carriers are direct copies of Losi 2038's. The steering rack is a copy of the Andy's pro race. The wheelbase and track widths are identical to the original RC10. The slider driveshafts were actual Losi pieces at Bullet Racing but when Raborn was formed they were changed slightly. It's plausible that those parts were at the very least inspired by Yokomo pieces. They definitely weren't made by RPM. All Raborn molded parts were made by Teschner Mold who is also the company that made all of the parts for Losi during the JRX era.

Same here. Plenty of ways to make an easy motor mount but couldn't come up with ideas for the missing diff that didn't require custom machine work.

little update. added yokomo andys rear arms, kyosho andys front arms(added a small bushing to take out the slack),raborn frt/rear shock towers, raborn motor mount and losi rear hubs had to modify a little to fit the yokomo arms. only drilled 2 small holes in the chassis the mount the motor mount. wont be drilling any more. the battery cups are double sided taped added a small peice of clear plexi to take up the gap where the chassis is milled. thanks fredswain for the raborn parts.
