RC12LS 1995 Euro Champs Special Phil Davies

Post by V12 »

More than a year ago Niki came up with this very special RC12LS spare chassis. We knew drivers from Associated Team Finland used such chassis at the 1995 Euro Champs held in Bretby, UK but not much more information. In the meantime I found a racereport showing a complete car with this chassis, used by Phil Davies. Guys who are into Schumacher cars will know the name of Phil Davies, a factory driver for Team Schumacher UK. When they stopped making the C-Car, Phil changed to Associated cars for 1/12 racing.
So we know now, such RC12LS version was used at least by Phil Davies and drivers from Finland at that Euro Champs. Another fact is, this chassis was made by Hansell Composites, known also as Fibre-Lyte. Comparing with the original RC12LS, this version is much stiffer and the weight was moved to the front by approx. 1/4".
Niki donated the special chassis and some of the parts for building this car, for showing later at Classic RC. Thanks Niki!
After collecting more parts, the RC12LS Euro Champs Special project starts now.

My pleasure.
I'm sure this is going to be a cool build flavoured with detailed background information. In a way we all know V12 can provide.
:D

Thanks Niki. That´s a project I really like to do, but I have no idea when this will be finished. Some parts still missing. Just wanted to start now.

Finding parts was a real problem for the white lower arms. Actually I try using new parts when building a car, in the end these came up. Not really looking nice.

After an extended session at the supersonic cleaner they look much nicer. :)
Also found some original aluminium screws for the castor blocks.

Just found white plastic parts for one pivot.
Also no silver AE mini-nuts, so regular nuts for the t-bar assembly. Hope to replace them some day.

Whot??? :o
Seems I bought the wrong motor-plate. Threads don´t match with lower pod plate.
OK, have to strip my RC10L now. One of the white plastic pivot sockets had gone to the RC12LS t-bar already.

Looks like a 4537 bulkhead instead of the proper 4347. Very cool build!

Preassembled parts mounted to the special chassis.
Upper arm mounts at the front end is 10° version, as used by most top drivers.
Correct motorplate at the t-bar now.

Thanks Jeff!
Got the wrong motor plate without card header.
Just good I could "steal" some parts from an other car. Hope to complete that RC10L donor car later.
But there are more parts to find for this RC12LS.

Left pod plate added now, also tweak screws at the t-bar.
Regarding hardware, all 8-32 screws are original AE aluminium screws. I really like them.

Chassis brace added also. Again new parts used.
Flat head screws at the top of chassis brace are usual black steel, Phil Davies used silver coloured aluminium screws there. I will replace them if I can find such screws, blue anodized screws were not used that time.

Do you mean a thin metal plate for protecting the chassis against wear from the tweak screws?
Or do you mean a shim under the front pivot for using the t-bar at an angle?
