Flip's RC10 classic build, long overdue

Post by flipwils11 »

For some reason I was content to watch everyone else build theirs when these first got into our greedy little paws, but didn't feel the motivation to start mine! I also waited for a few of the hop up parts I wanted for it and the painted body and was in no rush until I had it all. There were still a few things that were on my nice to have list, but screw it, time to build.

I really wanted another rear shock tower from jaydub but he doesn't have his setup going right now so I had to make due with the front tower I bought from him a year or so ago. I really like the color and texture of the fiberglass compared to stock, I'm weird like that. I also really like the design of the rear tower so I hope he makes more so I can swap this out.

I also would like to find a white RPM centerlink for the steering bellcranks. I can dream can't I? I think they're fairly rare.

Looking great so far Adam! Nice mixture of aftermarket parts you have going into this one. I did not see a picture of the body though. :?:

6 gear is built, spins like it's a little tight with all the bearings in there?

This is fun. :P

Finished. I used some electronics that are maybe a bit of overkill, but they came out of the RC10B4.2 I sold a while back. The motor is a 17.5T speed passion brushless.

At first I was going to keep it stickerless, but I got to thinking that as a kid, I would have gone all out on the stickers. So why the hell not, the point of this is to have fun! Lunsford was nice to send me a sheet of vintage stickers with my order.

So far I've only had the opportunity to drive it around the living room and basement. In the Spring (if that ever comes!) I'll look for a chassis protector before running it outside on a limited basis. And I'll use nylon locknuts instead of the REC knockoffs but I think I'll run the aluminum wheels sparingly for fun.

That is amazing! Great job!

Can you share the 'secret' about who did the paint job?

Hah, really no secret I guess if you have looked through my gallery. It's my standby guy, Jim Meyers of Winning Edge Designs. He is in FL.

I sent him some example pics I liked of late 70's early 80's Jeep Cherokee Chiefs and Jeep Renegades for inspiration on the yellow and stripes.

Thanks for the compliments.
