old -newbie with a rc10 gold pan

Post by Sharky8js »

Hello, been a long time since I did any RC.. my 1st was a Tamiya Hornet, then I had a front wheel drive Kyoshia.. Always wanted an RC10 - well I finally got one!!!!!!
So now I need to get it working and don't really know where to start?

it has been converted to brushless ; Tekin R5 ESC and Novak motor - brl-2011-2012 m0275 b1g10696 (I have no idea???) {these are installed}

Also came with trinity midnight + Reedy Mr Outlaw stock motors and tekin profet tsc p12 + futaba MC210CB ESC's (unknown if they work)

So here is where I'm lost... plug in battery steering servo twitches for a split sec. and the ESC lights blink but nothing happens ?
Its been too long for me and the closest shop to me is 50miles away. by the way radio is a Futaba magnum sport FP-T2PB reciver FP-R112JE

Hi Sharky and welcome to the forums. :D

Reading your post reminds me that I've tried using a vintage Futaba AM radio system with a modern brushless ESC/motor without success (maybe it was just my equipment, I dunno). You might try again but using your vintage brushed ESC/motor to determine if the problem is related to the radio system.

I would find the tekin manual and go through it carefully. These new escs have a boatload of setting so you need to be sure you start fresh.

Not familar with the novak motor, and it also is critical if the esc is set up for brushless sensored or sensorless, need to be sure you have all the cables hooked up correctly.

initially, if you run the receiver with a 4 cell pack and you get steering servo working, it's possible the bec is not working in the tekin esc. I'd start my debug there.

That's not something I had even thought of...

Yeah I downloaded the manual last night, I'm completely lost.... I'm thinking of trying to convert it back to brushed.

Ps, this is how I got the car, but I think I got a good deal on everything

Like I said, try a 4 cell pack with the receiver and steering servo. If that works the radio is good and then you can move on to esc testing.

Yes I am going to have to get one, I did think it was odd that it didn't have that, but from what I was understanding was the esc replaced the need for it, but then there would be no way to test!

Right the 4 cell is definitely old school and not needed with a properly working esc. Useful for debug though.

Ok, I'm in kansas city working this week so I got to go to hobby town... got a battery pack for the receiver, servo kicks on at first but does not steer or anything. Tried the servo on channel 2, still doesn't work, thinking the receiver is toast , should I just buy a new radio system?

Ps, esc was disconnected when testing

Do the transmitter and receiver both have crystals installed, and are they the same frequency?

At this point I would suspect the radio has seen better days. You can continue your debug or just investigate a new radio. Associated ready to run sets are often on eBay for $40 bucks or so. Have some mimnum adjustments and work pretty well. I just picked one up for my son's car
