My first RC10 Gold pan -- PLEASE tell me what I've got

I have wanted one of these since my best friend from childhood had one in the late 80's. I picked this up on eBay last night, hope I didnt get hurt too bad at $300. It was advertised as an A stamp "Andy's edition". What can you all tell me about this particular car? Was there actually an Andy's edition? Also, where can I obtain some repro decals for the body? I dont like the paint job on this body but may try to spruce it up with some stickers.. Also I would like to obtain a new body that could be repainted. Looking forward to getting this old thing running!

Nice score. AFAIK there wasn't an Andy's edition, though there were enough Andy's aftermarket parts make it seem like there was.

The reproduction bodies can be had from some places but https://teambluegroove.com/ seems to have positive buzz around them.

Others around here know more, but it looks like you have a well modified 6 gear rc10. It seems likely to be modified from an original rc10 and not the 6 gear CE version.

It looks like it is in good condition, you may just need to add a radio and battery and get it running. Looking forward to seeing you getting this running.

Looks like a common A stamp, with Andy's arms and RPS bellcranks.

The wheels look like Prolines, from what I can tell.

New and reproduction bodies are available through companies like JConcepts, Sabula Tech (member here), and Team Bluegroove. There are some others as well.

MCI is probably the best source for vintage reproduction decals. They also offer the option to change colors.

Whether or not it was worth the money is up to you. Given the current market, decent complete cars are bringing good money.

Not really.

The early six gear cars are desirable.

After that, not really. The Stealth is a better transmission and generally costs more.

Thanks for the info guys! Is this motor that was included any good, or should I look for another one? Are the newer brushless motors more powerful? Any reason to take a hard look at a brushless? This car will just be ripped around the neighborhood and at our ranch, it will never be raced or anything like that..

You should start by getting a radio and battery to see if you like the state the car is in. If you are happy with the performance you can keep it as is or wait to make changes. Since you are new to this car you may just want to try it out as is. Though the tires you have on the car are pretty nice looking, you may want to get a set of wheels and tires to get scuffed up.

Even for just tooling around the block brushless is worth a look. The power can be the same for either system, so it's more about ease of use. Brushless motors are the current technology, so you are going to find more support and parts for them if you go that way. As well brush-less motors require less maintenance and perform better with less attention. Some esc will have controls that can make up for the lack of a slipper clutch and can be made to be more gentle then a vintage brushed setup.

I was just looking at the esc that was present. If someone is going to go through the trouble of buying a modern esc it seems sensible enough to get a brushless motor.

It's going to depend on what you want out of the car and your budget. Both vintage and new radios will work fine. If you want the vintage feel you can get a top of the line older radio for much less they they cost new. An inexpensive modern radio will have the features of top of the line vintage radio. I prefer the modern radios but that's just preference. I have used modern servos and esc with vintage an AM Futaba radio without problems, though that is not recommended.


There is a wide variety of radios people use here. I like spektrum products as I picked one up at my local hobby shop and bought more as I got more cars. I have had my transmitter for around 10 years and it still does what I need. I hear that there are some inexpensive brands like flysky that are popular here and people have had great results with.

Looks to be a nicely put together car. Great that all those proline wheels came along with it. The aluminum wing is a nice piece as well. Could you take some pics of the gear cover ? Is it two pieces ? Also some of that burgundy and blue body.

Those aluminum steering bellcranks look similar to a set that I have. If you fully compress the front suspension, can it still be steered full left and full right? I had to replace my bellcranks because it couldn't. Just curious if you will have the same interference issue.
