Rc10 worlds front spring help.

Post by Crezo »

Hi all, I recently got my original RC10 ten worlds back up and running, but am struggling with the front suspension.

Original shocks and black springs, new oil and I stripped them down and rebuilt them.

All looks good, but I get next to no rebound at all.

So I wanted to try some harder springs, but can’t find any originals for the life of me!

Can anyone recommend any aftermarket springs that will fit? Ive found loads of big boars, but not sure what will fit and be firmer in the UK.

A couple of pics attached as well... just excuse the shocking paint job that’s now turned brown... I was about 13 when I painted it and have a new body ready to go 🤣Image

What o rings did you use when you rebuilt the shocks? Did the shafts slide easily during assembly?

Hi, when I say rebuild, I more mean stripping down, cleaning and putting together again, Ive not resorted to buying new parts and doing a complete rebuild... yet :D

All seemed pretty smooth, and pistons moved nicely. The actual damping works nicely, it’s just the lack of rebound.

Your old o rings could be swollen, preventing proper shock function.

Black springs are soft. Most of the time I've got my cars set up with silver all around, sometimes down to green. Generally 30wt shock oil all around but 5 points either way, front 35, rear 25 depending. One thing to remember is that the soft springs would rebound in a dynamic environment, vs a static bench test, so that test is a little worse looking than real life

But yes you are finding out all things rc10 have become much more difficult to locate.

Your best bet is to find some shocks or parts on eBay for a reasonable price and pick them up. You can try sabulatech also.

I'm sure you would have checked the basics but does the suspension move freely with the shocks disconnected?

Good to know thanks! There was only one set on ebay, and they’ve now gone. I was hoping there would be an aftermarket solution!

Unless your shock bodies are damaged, I see no reason to replace the shocks.

They are easy to clean and rebuild. If you don't damage anything during disassembly, the lower seals are typically all that needs to be replaced. If the cap seals don't leak, I typically reuse them. The lower o rings aren't anything special, the ones from just about any shock with a 3mm shaft will work.

Here are the directions for the rebuild kit. If you still have the tool, just replace the o rings and reuse the plastics.

Thanks for the help everyone. I’ve finally managed to track down some silver springs and new shafts. Ill see how that goes, then get a rebuild kit if I still have issues 🤦🏼

So it turns out somehow I had completely the wrong shafts in the front shocks, they were about a cm too long. No idea where they came from or how they got in there... but not surprisingly, now Ive put some new, correct sized shafts in, it’s all working perfectly !
