1/10 4WD cars
I went to the race this weekend and raced my stock motored Jrxpro SE and got put in with the 4WD mod cars I didnt finish last and it was fun but it seems I am the only one at my local track running a 2WD buggy. so I am thinking of getting a 4WD car. their was a XXX4, Asc.BB4, Lazer 5 , and I dont know what the other won was but it was FAST. all running Brushless & Lipo pacs so what is the best 4WD for the money keeping in mind avaible parts ? the Kyohso Lazer ZX-5 I was told to get by the guy who won! he like it the best. the BB4 did ok to I just dont know anything about 4WD cars at all? I see alot of them on here. thanks

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
Personally, I don't have a ton of experiece but I've owned/raced a losi xxx4 and now an Acadameny SBV2. I like the academy better, don't get me wrong, the losi was good, but the academy it just seems like I can't do anything wrong with the car. the losi was always twitchy, especailly jumping, like you had to have the thing very straight or forget about it, the academy you can blow over doubles almost completly sideways and it straightens right out and lands square. Parts are a little tough to come by for the academy at most LHS's but you can get them right from MRC over the phone and they are super helpful, and ship very quick.

there's also a really good thread on rctech.net on the car that is monitored by MRC and all the factory drivers.
With all that being said,,, I have yet to drive a b44, which I'm sure takes the cake!!! haha!

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
Rick...great thread...
I have owned XX4, X5, ZX5, SB Sport, SB Pro LE1, SB Pro LE2, SB V2 Sport, SB V2 Pro.
I have driven XXX4, BJ4 original and BJ4 WE.
I kept my XX4, because I just love the car in the rough stuff. And my Class 8 truck body is just the best looking RC vehicle out there (not my paint job mind you...). I race my ZX5. I love it, drives great, pretty stout (I do test the cartwheel factor more than I would like), and takes whatever power you dump into it. I have a Novak 6.5 GTB system for it, but usually opt for the 10.5 motor so that I can actually drive it. I was an Academy team driver for a while, and their cars are solid, but part support is scarce. If you dont mind mail ordering from MRC, it is an option. I also race a T4 for truck, and an RB5 for 2wd stock/mod. When Kyosho releases their truck (end of summer?), I will dump the T4 and pick it up.
My opinion....pick up a used ZX5, see how you like it, drive the snot out of it, then buy a new ZX5 SP version and have a ton of fun. The SP has revised front suspension (mine is the standard, not SP) that really helps initial turn in (as I am told). I love my XX4, but I can drive the ZX5 better, and it fits my Orion LiPo packs.

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
The hotbodies guys are releasing a sport version , would be a good start also
or you can go for the new CAT, but I think it's big bucks.
Maybe ask around the place you went ; there's always someone willing to buy something new and doing away with what they have for a good price.

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
The new CAT will (should) be priced right around an Associated B44, if not a bit higher.
I think the best car for you might be determined by the type of your track. A smooth track car isn't as fast on a loose dirt, bumpy, rutted out 1/8th track. I'd also consider a car that other people there race, as well as a nod to the parts on the wall of the track/LHS.
I've had a few 4wd cars (go figure), and though I don't race often and I'm not the best driver out there, I loved my Losi XX4we. It always felt light and nimble, and handled everything I threw at it. It might have been more fragile than the other cars, and harder to work on, but it felt the best on the track to me.

I'd like to add a ZX-5 sp to my stable too. I've heard a lot of good things about it.

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
Thanks for the info my hoppy shop BLOWS they dont carry anything you have to order everything. they quit carrying everything. we had the opener race they didnt even have any motors. they dont carry radios everything is (order I will get it for you). their a joke by their track is nice and only 3 miles away. the fastest car their was a ZX5 with the Traxxas Brushless system we thought it was a slot car. lighting fast and turned on a dime. but my shop wont even order Kyohso parts so I wasnt sure about that one and the XXX4 kept blowing diffs. the BB4 needs saddle packs so thats out I am not buying more batterys. were do you buy Kyohso anymore Tower didnt have them? and as for a Cat I have been here all of my life and no one has ever carryed them I have never seen one in person? thanks

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
Run what you brung I was the only 2wd Buggy their and the Truck class was Mod. so they put me in with the 4wd Mod. buggys it wasnt bad if I could drive and had a brushless set up in mine I think I could of kept up. so Brushless is on the way! and off to practice practice!!! but it was cool everyone was rutting me on everyone loved the vintage car holding its own!! at least as much as it could. It wont be so ugly next time!!

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
The CAT isn't out yet, which is why you haven't seen them before.
The Associated 4wd buggy is called the B44. The original version of that car is from JConcepts and called the BJ4. There is no such car as a BB4.

Hehe, musta been a regional thing, because from '86 to '90 or so, the only competition that the Yokomo had in 4wd around here was from Schumacher.

Re: 1/10 4WD cars
To purchase a Kyosho online, I would attempt Stormerhobbies.com or Amainhobbies.com. I have ordered from both and feel comfortable with them. Dont forget to scour ebay first...
