Anyone ever mounted 2.2 wheels on AYK buggies?

Post by AYKBOBCAT »

I'd like mount 2.2 wheels on my Sidewinder but I don't know wheich wheels to buy. It has exactly the same axles as the bobcat/buffalo/boxer. Axles are 4mm I think.

Anyone did that before?

Thanks for any help...

I have not tried it, but trying to think about it, if i remember correctly, the rear axle had a pin arrangement, right? no hex or anything? If so, maybe the same wheels used to convert to late model rc10 wheels.

for the front, I'm thinking the one way bearing has a 12mm hex, but it's been so long. If that is the case, you'd need to drill out any of the 2.2 rims with the right offset with an opening big enough to get the threaded part of the one way hub through.

Dosent matter... I got that one too! So what wheels are you using? Do you use the front one way bearings on it?

I haven't tried it yet, I'll have to pull the car down and pull the wheels off and take a better look. Tied up with other construction right now, I have 4 cars apart, I need my head examined! hahhah

I'm sure if you got HPI's wheel adapters, you could trim them a bit and mount 12mm hex wheels in the rear. Just need to look for something with a rather correct offset and preferably matching fronts
(HPI has front wheel adapters too)

i took some mearurements on the radiant pro this weekend.

the rear axle is 5mm OD, pin drive, and the axle length is 10mm. I have a custom works enforcer wheel (2.0") that has about the right offset, so something in a 2.2 should fit, in any case, as long as the wheel as a little bit of an offset, i doubt there will be a problem., there is a pretty good amout of room around the hub, the shock sits pretty far in on the arm.

the front wheel is a 12mm hex drive, with probably about a 10mm hole through it. I think you might be able to modify a kyosho zx5 wheel to make it work, or maybe a b44, the flatter the face of the wheel, the better, becuase the hub is held on with a 12mm nut. the axle itself is 4mm OD, length of 10mm.

hope that helps. I can't help on the sidewinder.

I used Trinity JRX2 wheels on the rear and stock narrow Lazer zx wheels up front. Had to hog out the hole to accept the Radiant one way hub up front. We also fashioned Yokomo hubs to work as well. Had to modify rear axle with a flat spot to accept the rear Yokomo adapter. And we used a MIP one way Yokomo hub up front instead of the original. Now we had Yokomo wheels all the way around. Yokomo was great because you could change the width with the many different Yokomo hubs.
