Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
If anyone has one of these, I need some deminsions from them. There is a set for sale, but Im wondering if they are all the same, or if they have seperate Front and Rear designations, and if the Off-Set will work for what I want them for.
Can anyone help me out?

If these are for your trophy truck, yes the rears are what you want, but the fronts are narrower

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
the same wheels were used on a number of other kyoshos, from vague memory, turbo optima and salute.
They also exist in other colours: white and yellow.
The chroming is real delicate, better to clean it off or go white wheels from the start.
The yellow ones are sought for to make a top range mid, so I guess more expensive.

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I'll try to help . . .
Measuring a stinger wheel I have with my trusty calipers:
Width = 1.4"
OD = 2" (at bead)
Backspace = .82" (from hex surface to inner rim lip)
The stinger MkI and II both had same width wheels front and rear. MkI had # OT-67 (white) and MkII had # W-5021 (silver). The optional narrow versions of these wheels are yellow (W-5024) or silver (W-5022).

I guess my stinger came with optional wheels then. The previous owner clearly changed some things but I didn't realise he changed the wheels.

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
If I remember correctly, the only difference between the narrow and the wide wheels were the inner piece (inside of the wheel) and the width of the friction ring (piece inside the tire). The outer halves appear to be the same.

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I borrowed a Wheel/Tire from a Friends Rocky today, but the Super Cool 2.0 Tires I want to use wont work with the Wheel. The Tire Bead is just ever so slightly to big, I couldnt get it to "seat" right on the Inner Ring for the Wheel. They fit perfectly on some RC10 2.0s (1.98), but I could NOT get them to work with the Inner Ring on the Rocky Wheels (1.97 Bead OD)
. What gives?? Might there be a Trick to mounting Tires on these Wheels?
Rocky Wheel - 1.97 Bead X 1.2 Width with .85 Off-Set (bottom of hex)
RC10 2.0 - 1.98 X 1.275 with .725 (to the bearing)
Random TC - 1.875 X .865 with .7-.75 (bottom of hex)
The Rocky Wheel/Tire seems to only Widen the stance maybe 1/8 inch more than a TC Wheel. Negative Off-Set, right? I hoping some of the other Vehicles mentioned have more Positive Off-Set, to Widen the Stance some more.
On another note, the Rocky Wheel/Tire Combo looks MEAN onthe Truck!!!! Probably have to get a Set of these also!!

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I had the same when Itried mounting a set of hotshotwheels on the kyosho rims.
It ook of 2 mm of the with of the clamping ring and then it worked

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I dont think I want to alter anything when theres still a possibility of the "bolt on" solutions (ultima, optima, etc). If someone could get those demensions for me, Id be closer to knowing which way to go anyway.
BTW, I had the RC10 Wheels Off-Set listed incorrectly. I had it listed as .725, but looking again (eyeballing a caliper across the rim), it seems to be closer to .425. Dont know how I mixed that up.

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I'm a bit of a wheel dork, so please excuse me if I stray off on a technical tangent . . .MONSTER wrote:

Offset works the other way around. The more negative the offset, the wider the track width will be for a given wheel width. The dimensions you were measuring were "backspace". The larger the backspace, the narrower the track width will be for a given wheel width. Both dimensions are shown in this pic.

Anywho, Typically 4wd cars have positive offset wheels. I'm pretty sure most of the kyosho 2" wheels are very similar in offset since most of the cars shared the same suspension (except Rocky, Shadow, and a couple others).
Looking at an RC10 2" wheel here, I can see it has a negative offset vs. the Kyosho's positive offset.
I've got samples of most of the early kyosho wheels laying around, is there a particular wheel you'd want me to measure?

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
Oh, so I had it backwards...I see. Good to know.
I just want some Wider Wheels, with a Wider Stance. What Ive had on there, is Standard TC Wheels, with the demension posted above. The outside of the Wheels/Tires are just about even with the outside of the Body with them. If the Tires were a bit Wider, and the Whole thing stuck out a little beyond the Body, I would be sooo happy.

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I'm guess you want to use hex drive wheels?
These tamiya wheels can be assembled two ways, positive offset or negative offset. They come in wide (31mm) and narrow (26mm).

Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
I was just about to suggest those wheels. Last year, there was a set of those wheels on ebay mounted on an optima/javelin. The picture from the back of the car showed that those wheels made the overall width of the car about 3/4 of an inch wider (total).sixdub wrote:I'm guess you want to use hex drive wheels?

Also, you can paint the center star a different color to match your truck.
Re: Kyosho Stinger MK2 Wheel Info?
Those are QUITE interesting. I think I'll put them on my Wish List. Thanks sixdub.
Id still like to try some others though. I really need to run down to the LHS/Track, huh, its just 2.5 hours down the road.
Anybody further than that from their "LHS"?
