Stinger Mk1 and Mk2 differences??

For a good while I've been interested in a Stinger Mk1 buggy. The asthmatics really do it for me.
So, I'm interested in getting one of these cars and handing the radio to my eldest son and letting him enjoy a low powered nitro off roader at a local gravel car park for some fun. I'm certain the concept of putting fuel into a tank, bump starting with a glow leed attached and the noise of the exhaust would keep him entertained.

Now all I need to is find one. My question is, what are the differences between the Mk1 and Mk2? I only ask as the Mk2 seems a little more common and I'd like to convert it back to look like the Mk1.

The biggest difference is that the MkII use a belt drive instead of a chain Drive, most of the MkII came with black plastic shocks instead of the red shocks of the MKI, and the upper radio plate is quite a bit different. There are little things like where the fuel tank sits, wheels, and this and that, but those are the major differences.

I take it the Stinger Mk1 had a bump start cone on the side of the motor going by the box art. Would these parts be available to bolt on to the crank case of the Mk2 engines?

Neither came with an engine, but the CZ-1 and CZ-2 both had that start cone. They also had a stock "zip" start that has a tiny one way sprag on the flywheel and a pull handle. The rear cone assembly will fit the pull start crank on the OS engines.

As far as modernizing, a pull start would be easiest (or one of the many drill adapter setups). May have to notch the chassis slightly. You can always use a bump start as well. The CZ-1 and 2 were quite weak little engines and had a very simple needle valve with little adjustment.

It's hard to explain why exactly but I like the look of that bump cone on the side of the crank case hanging out of the body.
It's kinda unique looking. (Silly I know)

I am wondering if the RS200 rally car used the same chassis and driveline?

No, it was a 4wd version of the rampage. Engine is north/south and it uses a couple small belts which are the weak links. Stinger was all on its own.

That said, rampage/rs/inferno 10 parts are easier and much more upgradable too

I really like the look of the original Stinger so I will have to keep my eyes open for one or convert a Mk2.

I scored one cheap not long ago, they are out there. I'll let you know if I see any around. The best way IMO is to get a mkII and swap the stuff to mkI as needed cause with the MKII you have better shocks, the chance of bearings (kits were being upgraded- some came with em) and some came with a steel spur gear. I love chain drive but for a runner the mkII is better

Oh, and they both have great parts compatibility with the optima. Both used original optima suspension but can easily be beefed up with mid parts

You can beef up the suspension some more with the GP-10 multi-link suspension set, which includes Lazer arms, new shock towers, and active toe at the rear.

Yes ago, I thought the mk2 looked better because the body looked more like the other Kyosho cars (ultima pro). Now when I look at the cars, I seem to like the older look of the MK1.

what kind of material is used for the MK1 upper chassis. Is it plastic or some kind of fiberglass?

It's a shiny plastic plate, looks like the shiny side of kydex
