Hey guys,
I've recently dug my cars out of the basement and have been looking into cleaning them up and getting them in running order. I'm having trouble trying to keep up with tire sizes and how everything has progressed since the early 90's. Some of the buggies need tires and I'd like to see what is available.
it appears that pretty much the standard is 2.2 front and rear, as well, it looks like a 12mm hex or a pin drive is standard for most of the buggy wheels. Is that right? Also, it looks like trucks use the same diameter, but I'm guessing they are taller and wider (kind of muddies the car/truck definition from what I can tell). Scr8p was kind enough to put up a sticky about the 2.2 wheel conversions that i read, but i was wondering if the smaller diameter wheels are still around with any kind of reliability (Ie, I know I can find anything on ebay)?
can someone give me a time line on exactly what has happened in the wheel dept? I know I have some later model wheels from the time frame, so I'm thinking I have 2.1" fronts and 2" rears, but it's been too long. pretty much like stock losi wheels of the era i think.
anyone still making tires that fit the orginal wheels? I saw tamiya still sold some older styles (hornet, frog, etc).
If this isn't the right forum, please feel free to move this. I have a bunch of buggies, I plan to put up a post to display them, some are unique, others just run of the mill. I'm mostly interested in getting new tires set up on a bitsnpieces build of a late 80's rc10 with jelly bean wheels.

The only tires that I know for a fact that are still being made and fit the old sizes are these:
Traxxas 2.1 front spiked tire:

Traxxas 2.0 rear spiked tire:
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJG70&P=7
Traxxas still makes a ribbed front tire but the sidewalls are...well, impressive. To me, they look a little awkward. You can find those on the buytraxxas.com website. The part number is 4740.
I think these Tamiya rear tires fit too:

excellent, thanks for the info. especially the tamiya tires. I did find the traxxas rears after digging on tower for awhile.
these tire guys need to spin up a nostalgia line of tires....that would be excellent, and it couldn't cost that much to add some material to the molds....
