Jrx2 prototype???
Since all the Losi experts are here, does anyone know answer to rumor that there were in late 80's, that there is or was an full aluminium prototype of jrx2 that was hand made by Gil Losi Jr? The prototype was used to see how the car parts worked together before molds were made. Probably a small test drive was also made. This might be the only place where I can find an answer to this rumor. If the rumor is true, does anybody have an picture or other information about this car?

The only losi prototype I've seen had a graphite chassis. Are you sure this wasn't the RC10 that Jr helped develop?

... and then it would be one very similar to this one http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5058, but there were quite a few other proto's that were raced for test purposehighwayracer wrote:The only losi prototype I've seen had a graphite chassis. Re: Jrx2 prototype???
Thanks, but the rumor was definitely about jrx2 and what I heard was that all suspension arms, transmission etc. was made from aluminium. But it might have been only a rumorhighwayracer wrote:The only losi prototype I've seen had a graphite chassis. Are you sure this wasn't the RC10 that Jr helped develop?

There are also some other interesting prototypes that were definetly exists:
- Car that was used in 89 worlds with long double deck chassis, long front shocks and probably a slipper.
- Jack Johnson's ROAR nats winning car that was in front of some magazine, maybe RCMC, between some flares and the car's antenna pipe was also on fire. Might have been fun to return the car back to Losi: "Sorry that we burned Your winning car, but the photo was nice!"

here it is my friend: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5500&start=0Jirka wrote: - Car that was used in 89 worlds with long double deck chassis, long front shocks and probably a slipper.
I've never heard of that alu Losi prototype, where did you get the rumour from? Anyway, I don't see why they would have chosen aluminium as a material to make prototype parts when they were planning to make a full composite car (besides the motor plate), they would rather have machined them from nylon or whatever plastic, just throwing in my 0.2 eurocents...

Re: Jrx2 prototype???
Sorry but I meant 89 world's Losi car. Small black&white pic without a body is here: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=1087&hilit=1989+world Scroll down to page "53". There is a prototype top deck in front and some carbonfibre? sheets on both side of the battery. Long front shocks etc.Asso_man! wrote:here it is my friend: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=5500&start=0Jirka wrote: - Car that was used in 89 worlds with long double deck chassis, long front shocks and probably a slipper.

The rumor was from the 80's here in Finland, so it was probably a rumor only and not true.

Re: Jrx2 prototype???
well, the pic of mike dunn's losi can shut some people up about how associated's 89 worlds win shouldn't count because they used a prototype car. the losi cars (atleast that one) weren't box stock.

Re: Jrx2 prototype???
MIke Dunn's car is pretty much the same as Jack Johnson's Nationals car. Essentially, it's a long wheelbase jrx 2 with the graphite side plates. It used the longer front shocks, but the chassis still had a 20 degree kick. The suspension arms were stock. So, by no means was this a true prototype car unlike the 89 & 91 stealth cars.
The only real prototype car I can think of is Kyle Reed's "double X". It used a pro SE type chassis with the adjustable front end that was later used on the XX. It had the extra long front arms with the bearings in the steering blocks instead of the wheel. Even that car used the stock 6 gear transmission. It did have a pro SE type rear shock tower, but the rear suspension was still the stock H arm set up.
I was very dissapointed when Losi released the pro SE instead of the XX. I felt they were becoming like associated in terms of releasing an older platform even though there was new technology available. That's when I started scratch building and running my own cars.
As for the earlier losi prototypes, I can only think of the first car. There are pictures of it here...somewhere. It didn't use the aluminum parts...mostly nylon. The only time I heard of losi using aluminum was during the 89 worlds. After yokomo and associated used the tr31 tires, losi had 2.2 wheels machined (out of aluminum) and sent to Austraila. Didn't work because they bent. The rest is history....
