MIP VS Stealth Trans.

Post by vintage AE »

I am looking for a transmission for my project. The chassis is fitted for a stealth, but there are not many around at the time. I have seen a couple of MIP trannys around. What is the difference performance wise? And I think I know the answer to this one, but, does the MIP screw on to a RC10 chassis w/o drilling any other holes?

MIP made a few different trannies but the most common one being the black case SP-1. It fits the older six gear mounting holes. Performance wise, they work really well.

Is the DS stealth trans different than the typical associated rc10 transmission?

Man, this might be a stupid question that everyone knows but me..., but did the MIP or the Stealth come first. I was thinking the MIP came first, but that seems weird to me. :?

MIP trans came out during the time when AE was still making that old 6 gear trans for the original RC10, which mean before 84. The stealth came to the market at about the rc10 team car time, as far as I remember, which was about early 90s, probably 1991 or 1992.

Therefore, the MIP trans was almost (at least) 3 quarter of a decade ahead of stealth. :D
