Triva Question

Post by nikos2002 »

I am looking for some history stuff - 2 questions about r/c companies and national championships.

Since 1990, has any r/c company, in its first ever attempt at designing a chassis ever won an electric off road national championship?

Has it been done since Associated won their first national championship with the rc10 (when was that?)?

When losi started - AE was winning, I don't think Traxxas won a championship, but it placed highly at its first nationals attempt (someone correct me if I am wrong). Kyosho came into the game with AE winning as well as Yokomo in 4wd. XFactory took a year or two before Hodapp won. It could be any class, 2wd, Truck, 4wd - stock or mod. Just not a specialty class - something mainstream.

These are my thoughts - please someone help me with the time line if possible.

Kyosho did it with the Ultima in 1987; actually it took first place in the 2nd Electric Offroad 2WD Tournament held in England.

Ultimas took 1st, 2nd & 3rd place at the 1987 IFMAR World Championships (also in UK).

Since 1990? I couldn't tell you. :) That's when I boxed & closeted my Optima and didn't get back into the hobby until a month or so ago.

Sorry, should have stated it better - i was talking ROAR Nationals - but thanks for the worlds side of it - hadn't thought about that. Kyosho didnt enter the electric worlds before '87 - interesting because I know they were around with motors and such.

Actually, I still have a Tower Hobbies catalog from back in the day and an article within states that Kyosho Optimas won 1, 2, 3, 4, 7, 8, 9, and 10th place in the ROAR Nats...I'm guessing that was 1986? I could confirm later with a picture of the article and getting the actual catalog printing date.

RC10's weren't the only car to dominate in a big way back then. :)

I don't remember Traxxas ever doing well at any national championship back then. They made inferior product back then and only started making things well when they started with their monster bashers.

one year I think they won stock - but I wasn't sure it was their first attempt or not. back with the TRX-1 it was list 87 or 88.

Thanks for the info - TQ won it's first National title today - at our first ever ROAR Nationals - just curious if it was done before. Except for Associated in the modern era.

Stock what? The only chassis that they have ever designed that I am aware of is the Bj4, and
I also was under the impression that they didn't run 4wd stock
